Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) apparently hasn’t budged from his refusal to subpoena new witnesses in President Donald Trump’s Senate impeachment trial, per Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) request.
We know McConnell wanted this buttoned up before the holiday break. Maybe it was a bad idea to announce the inability to be impartial or lack of interest in a fair trial that gummed up the works. Just a thought.
When McConnell refused to consider the nomination of Merrick Garland, it was just as brazen… but it was a power move. He was being a dick, sure, but he was parlaying a position of strength to get something he wanted.
Refusing to even consider such quaint concepts as “witnesses” and “evidence” in an impeachment trial – refusing to hold a trial at all – is a product of weakness. He looks weak. The argument for Trump’s innocence looks weak. The GOP senators who go along with it look weak. Politicians can get away with a lot of nonsense if they look strong and decisive while doing so, but this is so off-brand from Trumpism that the needle on public opinion will move more then people expect. They’re in risky territory, and McConnell surely knows this, but Trump’s guilt is so overwhelming they have little choice…
It was more brazen and he did not step back from it. PLEASE don’t step back, Dems. McConnell is utterly unfazed by public opinion and unpopularity and he’s taken aback that the Democrats would pull a power move like this. It’s his own medicine. Come on, Chuck. Stay strong.
ay mitch, you keep traveling this road you are taking.
there is a dead end sign at the end because of a big black hole waiting just for you
speed it up mitch, hurry up.
He may not want this (doubtful), but Trump certainly does. And McConnell in that Fox News interview said there was no daylight between him and Trump’s lawyers. So, pressure’s on Mitch.
You can’t hold Mitch McConnell to anything he has said before. He never meant it. It’s not hypocrisy, it’s deceit and insincerity. Those are his powers, and nobody has any excuse to take him at his word.
McConnell moved on the Constitution like a bitch. And, when you’re selling tickets to loot the treasury, they let you do it.
Is it? It seems to me it’s just a move to legitimize the Impeachment. Kind of like how they’ve been trying to make any Democratic POTUS illegitimate by virtue of their being a Democrat and nothing more.
