McConnell Says He And Schumer ‘Remain At An Impasse’ Over Impeachment Trial Process

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) apparently hasn’t budged from his refusal to subpoena new witnesses in President Donald Trump’s Senate impeachment trial, per Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) request.

“Because my friend, the Democratic leader, continues to demand a new and different set of rules for President Trump,”

correction: It is you who have implemented new and different rules for the president.

We know McConnell wanted this buttoned up before the holiday break. Maybe it was a bad idea to announce the inability to be impartial or lack of interest in a fair trial that gummed up the works. Just a thought.

Schumer: We want to call witnesses.

McTortoise (in his best Speaker-ese drawl): Witnesses aren’t necessary to reach a forgone conclusion.

1999 McConnell is calling, he’d like to have a word with Moscow Mitch about witnesses and nonpartisan rules for impeachment trials.

When McConnell refused to consider the nomination of Merrick Garland, it was just as brazen… but it was a power move. He was being a dick, sure, but he was parlaying a position of strength to get something he wanted.

Refusing to even consider such quaint concepts as “witnesses” and “evidence” in an impeachment trial – refusing to hold a trial at all – is a product of weakness. He looks weak. The argument for Trump’s innocence looks weak. The GOP senators who go along with it look weak. Politicians can get away with a lot of nonsense if they look strong and decisive while doing so, but this is so off-brand from Trumpism that the needle on public opinion will move more then people expect. They’re in risky territory, and McConnell surely knows this, but Trump’s guilt is so overwhelming they have little choice…

It was more brazen and he did not step back from it. PLEASE don’t step back, Dems. McConnell is utterly unfazed by public opinion and unpopularity and he’s taken aback that the Democrats would pull a power move like this. It’s his own medicine. Come on, Chuck. Stay strong.

Have fun receiving it in June of an election year?

McConnell really has a fantastically lousy hand to play.

And Pelosi is by no means a bad poker player.

No rush. Articles of impeachment will be waiting when you’re ready.

He may not want this (doubtful), but Trump certainly does. And McConnell in that Fox News interview said there was no daylight between him and Trump’s lawyers. So, pressure’s on Mitch.

Donald Trump, impeached.

McConnel owns all Trump’s future crimes.

McConnell wishes the senator from West Virginia would switch parties so that he could truthfully say he has a Manchin.

You can’t hold Mitch McConnell to anything he has said before. He never meant it. It’s not hypocrisy, it’s deceit and insincerity. Those are his powers, and nobody has any excuse to take him at his word.

McConnell moved on the Constitution like a bitch. And, when you’re selling tickets to loot the treasury, they let you do it.

Is it? It seems to me it’s just a move to legitimize the Impeachment. Kind of like how they’ve been trying to make any Democratic POTUS illegitimate by virtue of their being a Democrat and nothing more.

How can I put this delicately?

Fuck off, Yertle, you treasonous, grifting, lying, amoral asshole…

Too much?

It would not surprise me at all if President Trump gets impeached more than once.

That’s what happens when you’re a regrifter.
