McConnell Immediately Dismisses Manchin Voting Compromise As ‘Equally Unacceptable’

Not sure. I recognize that the SC did say the courts have no role in political gerrymandering but would the courts say that the Feds have no say in this part of elections at the state level?

Indeed. We’re going to do it, swear to god, because not doing it isn’t an option.

He did fairly well in those “Duck and Cover” PSAs. So we need to give him a little slack.

It’s hard for the courts to claim they have no role and then proceed to take a role. But I don’t know for sure and would cross that bridge when we get there.

You must know something I don’t because, I don’t see how.

Perhaps I have been Charlie Brown once too often.

ETA: I’m watching the Ohio GOP legislature trying to make themselves the only party to intervene (as the majority) in gerrymandering lawsuits.

Funny stuff. Manchin offers a compromise and Mitch spits on it. Actually, it’s good news because it will probably upset Joe enough to return the favor.

Fuck Joe Manchin.

Same way we’ve passed other legislation - it never looks good in process. All that’s left for us to get this passed is filibuster reform and Manchin is not opposed to reforming it, just to getting rid of it completely.

For as long as Joe maintains that he’d rather see a bipartisan bill than a change to the filibuster all MM has to do is wait because he knows there won’t be any support from republicans to stave off minority republican authoritarianism.

Joe buggered himself and all the rest of us by not coming out in favor of the bills and willing to abolish the filibuster - unless republicans can support a bipartisan bill.

This is only progress if Joe is willing to support his own amended bill… which he still insists needs republican support in order to have his support.

Words fail me…

Nah, he’ll keep trying. It’s what his very expensive and very generous benefactors want him to do.

I think it is deliberate. He wants an excuse for not voting against his constituents’’ perceived interests.

Well, Manchin? At long last, well???

In West Virginia that’s how you get elected.

McConnell is doing what he can to push Manchin to kill the filibuster for voting bills.

Yeah he really is.

“All Republicans, I think, will oppose that as well if that were to be surfaced on the floor.”

Odd. McConnell said exactly the same thing against a bill that praised chocolate cake.

Manchin has absolutely no intention of getting rid of the filibuster, ever. Bonus: Joe Lieberman is still working behind the scenes to destroy our democracy as well.
