McConnell Denies Trump’s July Call Claim | Talking Points Memo

he said, ‘That was the most innocent phone call that I’ve read.’

Besides Trump, is there literally anyone else in the world that talks like this, who’d describe a phone call as the “most innocent” they’ve read?

He could be polling at 1%. If Amy McGrath is his opponent he’ll win the thing by 10% or more.

Other way around I think. Trump may know how to maneuver around sharks but he’s never messed with this

Funny how the quote from McConnell sounds just like the way Donald would phrase it. At least he had the sense not to say it was perfect.
This has got to be driving Old Turtle nuts. Too bad.

Seems to me that one of the worst things that Yertle could do would be to throw in the towel and decide to retire. It would be great for Americans everywhere but not for Rump because at that point, Rump has nothing over Yertle anymore, and he basically lets Rump twist in the impeachment (& conviction) wind and his caucus members look out for themselves.

In a fight between MoscowMitch and Dumpy I’d place my money on the turtle to trump the Dump. And even if Mitch decides to retire he still has more juice where it matter than Trump, not that I’m OK with this. I just hope Trump can land a few punches on the turtle on the way to jail.

I think the question is how long before Moscow Mitch decides Pence will be a far far more useful tool without any of the drag.

Now this is a real conundrum, do you believe Trump or McConnell?

That said, it’s been widely reported that Trump has been calling McConnell regularly for quite a while now.

Did Trump mention his call to the Ukraine President?

Does a bear shit in the woods?

Is it possible McConnell would not recall such a conversation?

Seriously?

Advantage Trump.

(You’ll never ever hear me say that again)

I lived in KY for a while and saw one of these crossing the street. Not wanting it to get squished I gingerly picked it up without endangering my fingers and took it to the creek behind my house.

I’ve been predicting that for a long time. I think the decision really pivots on two things…1) How likely does McConnell believe that the republicans will hold the Senate? and 2) How difficult does he believe his own race will be?

If McConnell feels that republicans are going to lose the Senate…he is out. He will have zero interest in being a minority leader again…not at this point in his life and career. He has much better options lobbying/consulting/being a GOP elder power broker…all with a lot less headaches.

McConnell is not going to have an easy re-election campaign. He is not well liked in Kentucky. Amy McGraff is a very viable opponent, too. I believe McConnell could beat her if he goes all out…but again, the going the retirement route may prove to just be an easier personal decision. Particularly if he is getting dragged into a lot of legal problems because of Trump.

Hey plucky:raising_hand_man: I agree he’ll be nearly impossible to dislodge, but if he now has to run away from Current Occupant it can’t help his state of mind.

Would you have been so kind if you knew it was McConnell’s spirit animal?

Expect lots of testimony, evidence and leaks to come out that force erstwhile Trump defenders to abandon him. Fuck yeah the “deep state” is going to destroy him, with leading Repubs having no choice but to pile on. It’s the patriotic thing to do for the former and sheer survival for the latter.

Divide and conquer. Slash and burn. Take the fucker down.

MoscowMitch playing Pontius Pilate but the bottomline is…

Will MoscowMitch make the Extortionist-In-Chief an IMPEACHMENT CONVICT?

He never did. He was merely a useful pawn to McConnell, so McConnell could work on his legacy of packing the Federal Judiciary for a generation to come, with conservatives. Toss in a big tax cut for the wealthy and corporations, and McConnell is getting what he wants. He could care less (as we have seen) what sort of mess Trump makes of the WH.

His only concern beyond that regarding Trump, is the impact Trump has on the electorate. And that…is a pretty fluid question tonight. McConnell is going make his decisions based on what he thinks best helps the GOP…long term. If that coincides with whats good for Trump, ok…if not…he won’t give Trump a second thought.

True, it could go either way. I think McConnell has some major trouble in KY this time. Now he is bucking Trump and KY loves them some Orange Menace.

I believe the GOP approved PC phrase is “Get over it.”

Trump said this on Oct. 3 and McConnell responds today. Huh. Was he not asked? Did he say something anodyne on the subject, and Trump distorted it as usual? Did the “letter” not come up at all? Has McConnell not spoken with the press until today? Why is he essentially calling Trump a liar today? Personal pique, some distancing strategy, what? It’s really kind of intriguing.

I agree. Either he is destroyed or we are. It is a simple as that now.

So far almost all Republicans are content to be dragged into the sewer with dipshit Donnie.
