Yet he has set the stage to once again acquit a serial criminal who embraced Qanon among other loony conspiracy theories, fomented a literal rebellion and continues to claim he won an election he lost by 7mm votes. Don’t be fooled. Republicanism 101 states: while you may from time to time have to speak as if you have integrity, in crunch time you must remember who you are and act only as instructed by Grover Norquist, the Trump family and Fox News.

This is a hard one. It is very good that he is making these statements. However, at the same time, as many commenters have pointed out, few people bear more responsibility for what has happened than he does. Mr. McConnell has experienced some recent health issues. I wonder…

Romney received 59,134,475 votes in 2012 while Trump received 62,979,879 votes in 2016.
Trump further expanded the voting base to about 74 million in 2020. Mitch isn’t going to say much more than he has for fear of losing those Trump voters. Sure, he doesn’t want them to be the public face of the Republican party, but he wants their votes.

How far along are the talks between Trump and Russia as far as agreeing to a price on the intel briefings he’s still receiving? He’s going to need that money to offer Letitia James $100 million as an umbrella settlement for all the criminal charges he agrees to plead no contest to.
