McConnell Breaks With Trump On Masks, Says There’s ‘No Stigma’ To Wearing Them | Talking Points Memo

President Donald Trump claims wearing masks is about being “politically correct” during the COVID-19 pandemic, but Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) doesn’t seem to agree.

It’s really too bad the way Mitch McConnell got away with helping Joe Scarborough kill Lori Klausutis.

Is this particular rat getting ready to jump ship or is he just peeking over the railing?

If McConnell approves of mask wearing, I must resist the temptation to burn my mask and scatter the ashes at the nearest GOP headquarters.

I’m getting the sense that Red States (OH, KY, etc.) want to get their economies up and running badly. They appear to understand (even thought they’re not willing to outright admit it to their citizens) that COVID-19 isn’t going away anytime soon and the price for that is, at the very least, masks and distancing. Just the way it is but they won’t come right out and say it.

McConnell loves the mask …do you know how hard it is for him to maintain that stupid frowning stone face?
now - he can smirk his ass off behind the mask!

Are Senate Republicans considering throwing Trump under the bus to save their own asses this election year? Time will tell, but these small signs of rebellion are amusing.

He’ll reel them back in somehow.

I suppose I’m obliged to welcome this, just as I would a statement that there’s no stigma attached if you choose not to rob liquor stores. But God damn it they’re playing with fire. They’re treating their political lives as a stack of chips they’re betting on “taking the punch,” opening up and hoping the economy comes “roaring back” without any catastrophic spikes or second waves and we forget about this unpleasant business. Except of course maybe you young folks who have nothing whatsoever to worry about yourselves (fingers crossed behind backs as they say this) could be nice and wear masks just to help out the olds whom we agree might have a mild concern. And staying six feet apart, sure, why not, let’s play along for a while. Because they know they’re playing with fire and once again they’re doubling the hell down.

This isn’t exactly on topic, but it simply boggles my mind that Trump said that wearing a mask is “politically correct.” Just unbelievable. It is so detached from reality, such an ignorant pandering to his base, and yet goes by almost completely unnoticed because of all the stupid crap he does all day every day.

“There’s no stigma attached to wearing a mask,” McConnell said on Wednesday during an event in Kentucky, according to Politico. “There’s no stigma attached to staying six feet apart.”

What has McConnell said about the up-coming Republican Convention?

Outside of dodging responsibility and assigning blame Fat Donnie will continue to golf and do nothing about his pandemic. Heading into an election vulnerable R’s can appear rational by endorsing what has worked to slow Fat Donnie’s pandemic, even though up till now they have opposed it.

I think many red state denizens have decided the price to be paid for everything reopening and everyone returning to work is continued illness and deaths. It’s predominately killing old people, prisoners, nursing home residents and minorities. Especially minorities working in jobs wherein nearly the entire workforce is nothing but minorities, such as meat processing facilities. Hence, unfortunately, the chances of infection for people outside of those affected groups is in fact smallish. Other people, (and “the other”) are the ones dying, so let’s just get on with life and quit with all the mitigation and safety bullshit. That’s what’s happening.

It’ll be all fun and games until they or their family start dying. Leopards and faces, a tale as old as time.
