McConnell And McCarthy Say No Way To Election Delay: ‘We Should Go Forward’ | Talking Points Memo

Listening to Trump, on even a slow news day, is like listening to Drunk / Dementia Uncle at the average family Thanksgiving holiday dinner table.

He’s going to distract from John Lewis’ funeral by having Mark Meadows commit sepukku, live on cable news.

The White House press pool was just abruptly called to gather. President Trump has nothing on his schedule for another 90 minutes.

The title is misleading: Neither one of these miscreants said “no way” Dopy said, "….and we should go forward with our election…"
Lindsey Graham: “I don’t think that’s a particularly good idea.” (If statements were currency- this would be a negative-penny.)

The ass-kicker is, when they all know trump has zero authority, none can just plainly state that a president cannot change the election day:
Why is anyone bothering to ask these jerks a question we all know they won’t answer?

Trump is telling us that he does not have the numbers to win either the popular or electoral vote. Rigging the election will require coarse moves. Basically they can’t slide it in to home quietly. Putin must have told Trump he screwed the pooch. So much for the made man. And we know what happened to Pesci’s character in Goodfellas.

Trump ally Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC) had said when asked about a potential delay: “I don’t think that’s a particularly good idea.”

LOL! Really, Senator Lapdog? Perhaps you should stop worrying about finding a pair of comfortable shoes to wear with your matching MAGA ball-gag and nipple clamps and start shopping for a fucking spine, you worthless POS.

They didn’t have the stones to remove him from office…

But they want him gone… just w/o angering the base

I did have a feeling it would play out this way. It was a matter of discussion this morning, actually.

Who cares what they state? The two most powerful Republicans in Congress just shot down any idea of postponing the election. If by some miracle, and that’s about what it would take, they found a way to cancel the election then Sen. Patrick Leahy ascends to the presidency on 1/20/21 at noon. Mitch McConnell is many, many awful things, but he’s not stupid. He knows this is a lose-lose gambit to even be floating such ridiculous ideas.

ETA: Not only would Leahy become president, Democrats would control the Senate and there’d be no House of Representatives. They could pass whatever laws they wanted and confirm judges all day long. Mitch ain’t letting that happen.

McCarthy said that!? This quickly? And with no equivocation, no, “we’ll see, it’s been so corrupted already so we have to be sure…” BS?

He’s the most spineless hack in Congress not named “Lindsey Graham”. It’s mildly interesting he willing to state this position today (and considerably more interesting if he keeps this position through a week of Trump yelling at him).

So have the election now.

They used the same phrasing, he and McConnell. Not an accident. They want to minimize their losses and adding to Trump’s chaos is not the way to do that. This really was inevitable.

Obama is disemboweling Trump at John Lewis funeral… shit twit-storm coming…

Nah, that’s just Lindsey’s Southern background talking. If you’re familiar with the culture, it’s typically Southern snarky understatement, meaning he thinks it’s a ridiculous idea.

Let’s compromise: Cooler heads that want to remain attached.

So are they going to camp out until January? Fine. They can get a front row seat for the dragging out of the Trumps.

Mitch and Kevin can count.

If the election isn’t held before Congress reconvenes in January, governors can appoint House members and Senators. This will [a] give the Democrats majorities in both chambers; and [b] cost both of them their jobs, as their states’ guvs are Democrats.

It also elevates the House Speaker to President at 12 noon on January 20.

Nope, canceling/postponing won’t work. Sabotage, voter suppression, interference from abroad, etc. is what the GOP will try.
