McCarthy Won’t Name Trump In Statement That Floats Censure Of POTUS | Talking Points Memo

The purpose of impeachment is not to bring the country together. The purpose is to remove a criminal from office. And show that there are penalties for criminal behavior while in office.

But I guess the ‘law and order’ crowd wants us all to just group hug and go easy on criminal offenses now.

oh, and Fuck off, Kevin.

A bipartisan committee? Now there’s a plan!! And they can release a report in a year, with plenty of passages by Gym Jordan and Matt Gaetz about how mean the Democrats are. Maybe even work in a little light Benghazi?

“Making us vote against impeachment will only demonstrate how craven and ugly we Republicans are.” – what McCarthy actually means.

McCarthy is a ruddy version of Mike Pence-and really-really wants to be a Presidential Candidate in 2024. He wants to be above the fray and pretends to be a Statesman…
I really despise him…and his district next-door-neighbor; Dev-In. Both are Captains of the Confederate-Counties-of California and their Farmocracy.

Kevin McCarthy is one first class prick. He contributed to the attack on the Capitol and therefore should not be allowed to serve in the House. Nancy Peloci should refuse to seat McCarthy and any other House member who questioned the election results

Said doublespeak is no doubt why he said “let me be very clear.” No one is impeding his clarity except himself.

That does seem to be the only reason they’re scared. Up-or-down votes in the House and Senate on whether to impeach/convict Trump for incitement to insurrection.

Going on record for posterity, having to decide between our constitution (to which they took an oath to defend) and Trump (to whom their fealty was merely pledged).

Welcome to life between the rock you dug up, and the hard place you spent four years building.

Have fun, fuckers.

Fiona Hill explains very clearly why it is accurate to label what happened in the weeks leading up to January 6th as a coup (or auto-coup) by Trump, drawing parallels to Recep Tayyip Erdogan in Turkey.

That is true
the problem we have here is that they know of no crime being committed.
So it’s an imaginative free for all.

McCarthy needs to understand impeachment is the lighter punishment because removal is, as a practical matter, off the table due to timing.

Senate can, decide to vote on the trial and call it moot and avoid it.

Then, we talk censure and healing.

But Donny must be tagged with a historically significant 2nd impeachment for historical posterity

You can say that again.

… McCarthy… urged the country to get “back on a path towards unity and civility.”

Of course, McCarthy is right.

We must unite.

We must unite in opposition to sedition and in support of punishing all seditionists, supporters of seditionists, and inciters of seditionists, and ostracizing all apologizers for all of the aforementioned.

And, as far as “civility” goes, that’s something that McCarthy is going to have to take up with his own party. After all, they, and they alone, are the ones who have been behaving uncivilly, for far too long.
