House Minority Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) on Tuesday wouldn’t give a straight answer when pressed on the Republican National Committee’s characterization of the deadly Capitol insurrection as “legitimate political discourse” when it voted to censure Reps. Liz Cheney (R-WY) and Adam Kinzinger (R-IL) last week.
So, trespassing, trashing the Capitol, attacking law enforcement and causing several deaths was “not called for”? Now those are some really, really strong words, Kevin. And have you noticed that TFG has been promising to dole out pardons to the criminal mob? He’s not gonna like how strongly you’ve spoken out here. Better go hide until this blows over . . .
Damn, did mitt’s niece and the fascist cult ever step in it with those words. It’s a joy to see their frantic backpedaling. The committee’s public hearings are just around the corner and the heat on the fascist cult will be cranked to 11.
“What they were talking about is the six RNC members who Jan 6th has subpoenaed, who weren’t even here, who were in Florida that day,” McCarthy said.
The fact they weren’t there obviously doesn’t mean they had no involvement. And if they have any knowledge as to the insurrection and what led up to it, it’s their patriotic obligation to speak up.
By “legitimate political discourse”, the RNC is doing its utmost to protect people higher up while cutting the rank and file -who largely took their leaders at their word -loose. Some of them are figuring this out.
McCarthy will never take a position on anything. If he’s asked about the rain outside, he’ll mutter something like ‘the air is very humid’, then slink off like the coward he is.
Wandering through broken windows. Stealing stuff. Putting your feet up on the Speaker’s desk. Wandering around waving a confederate flag. Beating up cops outside. Inciting the mob in the first place. All OK.
Tell us who they are and why the committee subpoenaed them and let us decide if there’s reason to believe they might have had something to do with the events of January 6th and what led up to them, OK, Kevin?
This is a failure on the part of reporters and interviewers confronting GOPer’s like McCarthy, when they don’t point out that the 1/6 committee was formed to investigate the causes of the insurrection, not just the violence on that day. The resolution says:
(1) To investigate and report upon the facts, circumstances, and causes relating to the January 6, 2021, domestic terrorist attack upon the United States Capitol.
The word “causes” is mentioned four times in that document. The R’s are getting away with framing the committee as illegitimate because it’s looking at the wider picture, and not just the rioters. This has to stop, the media needs to get a clue and start calling out this kind of bullshit response.
