House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) reportedly made clear on Thursday that he opposes the petition that President Trump’s allies in the House Republican conference circulated the day before urging its third-ranking member to resign from her leadership position after she came out in favor of Trump’s impeachment.
He knows that a Trumpist G.O.P. will be a minority party forever, but having handed out a whole lot of pitchforks and torches, he’s going to have trouble rewriting the narrative.
This should be a major concern that a “moderate” Republican will now be defined as a Republican who did not support sedition like in the past when “moderate” Republican was defined as one that did not oppose abortion to save the life of the mother.
That is Dick’s daughter who is a hard right Republican and supporter of Trump and his racism and greed must not suddenly be considered in the center of American politics because she stopped short of advocating overthrow of democracy.
Good for McCarthy. Now! Let’s talk about something I think is mildly interesting: There were no hideous atrocities today, mostly, as far as I can tell. It’s like a new-normal version of a slow news day. Even the people who were planning hideous atrocities because that’s what “follow your bliss” means to them, they’re all “Don’t go to any protests and commit atrocities! It’s a false-flag FBI thing! Stay home!” They may be reading with interest the stories of all the heroic supporters of Donald Trump Grand Emperor of the United States getting grabbed off the street and thrown into the lockup preparatory to trials and incarceration. It makes a fella think! Anyway it was a pretty quiet day and I’ll take it.
Judging from the disabilities that afflicted his predecessors as caucus leader when they went up against the party’s fanatics, it’s unlikely McCarthy has a happy tenure awaiting him.
I’ll pause to play the world’s saddest song on its tiniest violin.
Done.
