McCarthy Stalls BBB Vote With 8-Hour Audition For House Speaker | Talking Points Memo

A lot of things happened. Here are some of the things.

House Democratic leadership moved the chamber’s vote on Democrats’ sweeping $1.85 reconciliation bill to Friday morning after House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) spent more than eight hours ranting about the legislation, Biden’s agenda and, uh, this in a floor speech that didn’t end until after 5 a.m. ET. McCarthy’s gambit won’t actually stop the reconciliation bill from passing

  • The law, which bans teachers from teaching anything with a “divisive concept” and the idea that “an individual, by virtue of his or her race or sex, is inherently racist, sexist, or oppressive,” led the state government to put up a website where parents can report teachers.

So does that mean the Civil War can’t be taught, or does that mean it can only be framed as the South frames it - a war of Northern Aggression. Nothing on the KKK? We can’t possibly teach anything about the South or slavery in the first few hundred years of the nation?

Holocaust is out? And what about the Asian internment camps in WWII?

History classes will be relegated to teaching pinochle.

But he doesn’t care. He made his bonafides with his supporters, how ever few there might be. That’s the only thing that matters.

Look, he’s even losing ground with T****.

I’d love to see that McCarthy doesn’t even get re-elected next year, but that’s far too much to hope for.

IANAL, but this seems like a pretty clear example of a first amendment violation. New Hampshire really is Cow Hampshire.

The hypocrisy of it, of course, is that Sununu signed the bill into law that makes this possible, according to the article in MM. So him coming out against the results of that bill is pretty silly.

I called Kennedy out yesterday for his insulting comment. He deserves ridicule for it.

I don’t see the BBB passing the Senate.
No matter that near 70% of Americans are for it.
From cnn… Mark Meadows wants trump elected Speaker of the House and according to the Constitution it could happen.

And he lacks the self-awareness to do this:

What the fuck is a “divisive concept”?

I am sure there are many Republicans scratching their heads this morning thinking… wow, I remember numerator, denominator, quotient, and remainder, but I must have missed the day the concept was explained.
