It appears House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) is resigned to the fact that his conference’s far-right flank will likely continue to hold the appropriations process hostage when the House returns next month.
McCarthy: “Because I and my party are a big pile of shit, some maneuvering is going to be needed to keep everybody else from getting totally covered with shit. I and my party will not be able to help with this process. In fact, we will make it harder than it needs to be. Because, as aforementioned, we are a big pile of shit.”
Surprise, Surprise, Surprise. McCarthy thought he was going to lead a bunch of yahoos beholden to rich libertarians who have no interest in anyone not making half a billion a year. The Freedumb caucus is composed of entertainers paid to make billionaires laugh not handle the serious business of Government for you and me.
How long will the Goopers hold out when the air traffic controllers go find other work while they aren’t being paid? And for all those who don’t remember, it was the ground stop at LaGuardia and the understaffing at the Leesburg control section that caused TFG to cave on his demand for a wall and reopen the government. So, I say let Qevin continue to twist in the wind.
My experience as a federal employee is that in the end these Republican shutdowns amount to a paid vacation. The same cannot be said for people in the military, “essential” staff, or government contractors however.
I have no idea how any citizen could remain unaware of where the problem is coming from but in this misbegotten era where story impact (or distractability) is king and truth approaching irrelevance it probably helps to hear the latter mixed in with the former whenever possible.
[Republicans] will likely continue to hold the appropriations process hostage
The party of the President who stiffed contractors of the money they were owed – the Republican Party – hopes you’re not expecting actual on-time payments.
“If McCarthy follows the hard right and tries to do a partisan bill he’s going to lose,” Schumer said. “The hard right wants to shut down the government. But McCarthy knows that that would be a disaster not only for the country, but for his party.”
It really is hard to produce legislation, as McQ is finding out. I suspect he will be much happier next term being minority leader and being able to throw the requisite hand grenades, rather than actually having to do something.
