After days of pushback, House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) finally broke his silence on the exclusive internal Jan. 6 footage access he gave to Fox News host Tucker Carlson — who spent months airing conspiracy theories about the legitimacy of the 2020 elections and the Capitol attack itself.
Serious Question: Is there not a difference between “access” and allowing Carlson to make recordings and/or get copies of the actual recordings?
The only reason to be upset that Tucker gets to see the tapes is that ANY journalist or reseracher should then also be allowed to SEE the tapes.
Allowing copies to be made or released is a related but different issue in my mind. And no, if Tucker gets anything – access or copies – then ANYONE should be able to get the same.
Josh points out that the mainstream media framing of SCOTUS as a legitimate, not-corrupted, body, when in fact it has been steadily degraded for decades. The problem is that if you have a court system that consistently delivers for incumbent capital, it really hurts the vibrancy and innovative capacity of the country.
The California Republican also took the opportunity to try to turn the tables on Democrats, accusing the Jan. 6 committee of not taking the same precautions during their investigation last year.
As with Donnie, Qevin’s eggregiousness is invariably justified by his alleged victimization.
McCarthy’s claim is directly at odds with Carlson’s claim that his team has had remote access to the tapes for days already, if not weeks. He can try to weasel-word about it by saying Carlson has not had physical access, but that’s a distinction without any difference. The cat has long since bolted from the bag, and McCarthy deserves to fry for it.
I thought he’d already set it over…I guess he is having second thoughts about sending a BLUEPRINT of the Capitol to Tucker??? So next time the insurrectionists don’t have to guess where to go? What a leader.
“People like exclusives, and Tucker is someone that’s been asking for it,” said McCarthy, who characterized Carlson’s style of journalism as “opinion,” not news. “So I let him come in and see it, but everyone’s going to get it.”
McCarthy told reporters on Tuesday that none of the footage will be released to Carlson’s team or be broadcasted publicly before it is screened by Capitol police to make sure it doesn’t compromise the security of the Capitol building.
From the linked WaPo article, “A spokesperson for the USCP would not confirm McCarthy’s assertion that he or Carlson’s team is requesting security review of any footage that may be used on his show.”
So how many days have Putin fan boy Tucker Carlson and his associates had to pore over tapes of the evacuation plans for the Capitol in action? In what SKIF? Remind me what level of security clearance did all these folks have?
My views on the judicial system were shaped by a PoliSci professor I had in a freshman class on the Supreme Court in fall 1970. He almost gushed his praise of the Warren Court decisions. The Burger Court wasn’t too bad, but then a steep nose-dive with Rehnquist, and even steeper with Roberts.
