McCarthy Edges Closer To Seizing The Debt Ceiling As GOP’s Prized Hostage – TPM – Talking Points Memo

The GOP is in a death spiral, but the whole country is really close to the funnel. They’re bent on punching more holes in the bottom of the boat, and the cult is still cheering it. But to a great extent we’re all on the boat. They’ve given up on being Americans, basically, and are going to burn it down. That’s what infuriates me.

this is fundamentally Republicans finding ways to embroider their financial recklessness.

Well said and accurate.

"Rep. Scott Perry (R-PA - Insurrectionist), chair of the House Freedom Caucus, wouldn’t pin himself down on his ultimate vote, but told us that the debt ceiling bill is “moving in the right direction.”

Perry should be “moving in the right direction” of being indicted for his actions leading up to, during and after January 6th.

And this bill includes not one hard choice or sacrifice by the Republicans; the entire burden is on President Biden and the Democrats’ priorities.

I’m so glad Biden learned the lesson that for some reason eluded Obama, and tell the Republicans to fuck off and get serious.

So…

After we agree to McCarthy’s demands, they’ll do a clean increase of the debt ceiling?

But they can’t do it now because paying our debt would be irresponsible?

Excuse me. I have to call my credit card company.

The signs and portents are present: the California Republican Party is moribund. The Michigan Republican Party is apparently nearing open warfare.

Leave it to the GOP to consistently, cluelessly, and willfully, produce high irony at its finest.

If this bill passes, it lets him a) shake around his peacock feathers,

Do not like that image.

“There’s a really strong momentum,” Rep. Chip Roy (R-TX)

Mr. Chin Merkin puts his two cents in.

Poor Qevin so much work and stress to get the bill, only to have Dark Brandon tell him to shove it and then go and mint the trillion dollar coin…

Good to see he’s avoiding the petty vengefulness that defined his term in office.

I think that Kev needs a copy of Amendment 14 Section 4 so that he can read " the validity of the public debt of the United States authorized by law… (snip) … shall not be questioned"
And whatever Kev cooks up will not fly in the Senate. And Biden has said he wants a clean bill to sign.

Apparently you missed the obituary: irony died on January 20, 2017 when Donald Trump was inaugurated. All that remains is sarcasm.

I suspect the actual strategy here is not the trillion dollar coin, but to let public polling and the GOP’s corporate donors panic-force McCarthy into bringing a clean debt limit bill to the house floor.

The goobers in their quest to blame Biden for the mess the House made have forgotten we are watching how badly they are fucking things up…

I’ve never really understood why people think that premier examples of tragic irony are, instead, supposed to mark the death of irony.

Too bad the goobers cannot behave like grown ups.
