House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) said on Monday that he disagreed with Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell’s (R-KY) decision to turn down the Abbott COVID-19 tests that President Donald Trump had offered to Congress.
Bless his heart…OF COURSE he did. Kev has always had an inflated sense of self and asking his members to wear masks and wash their hands and leave the tests to those actually showing SYMPTOMS or better yet get off his dead a$$ and work on setting up Congress to work/vote from home is way too much to ask.
Trump didn’t take the rejection too kindly, tweeting later on Saturday that there was “no reason” not to accept his offer “except politics” even though McConnell and Pelosi’s decision was clearly bipartisan in nature.
What kind of politics would lead to this miasmic prospect? I’m not sure which is more horrific, the thought of him coming to our side or that of her going over to theirs.
McConnell is evil, but not stupid. McCarthy is just stupid. McConnell knows how bad it looks for congress to get testing that no one else is getting, McCarthy cares only about himself, his doners, and what he is having for dinner that night, the political impacts are beyond his IQ level. If it will fly at the Country Club in Bakersfield, CA (basically rural Oklahoma) than that is about as far as McCarthy’s thought process goes…
If Trump and the GOP had done their job and seen that tests were available to all early on, the number of deaths would have been much lower so you wouldn’t be so (appropriately) scared and no one would resent Congress having tests. Agreed that a functioning Congress is vital but I have a hard time viewing the current Congress that way due to Sen. McConnell’s foot dragging.
It conflicts with my conscience but I have to admit that on ccassion I have become severely afflicted with schadenfreude.
Meanwhile might I suggests that you, personally, do something useful-- such as volunteer for a shift or two at a packing plant.
Kev in a local boy who is loved in his very red district. I don’t think he rises to the level of Trump/McConnell rank evil. He seems more like a go along, get along person.
If I were in a position of power and incredibly selfish, I certainly wouldn’t demand the Abbott test until it’s proven to provide an extremely small false negative rate. One researcher claims the Abbott test has a 15% false negative rate and his findings are still subject to peer review. No, I would demand a different test.
On the other hand, the Roche test alleges to have a 0% false negative rate. Roche claims a 99.8% specificity and a 100% sensitivity. 100% sensitivity implies 0% false negative rate. I believe the 99.8% specificity implies that a very few antibodies similar to those expected subsequent to infection by SARS-CoV-2 but not necessarily SARS-CoV-2 may show as positive; that is, a false positive result.
These are antibody tests which is not the same thing as a virus detection test. These will tell you if you have antibodies identical to or similar to the antibodies typically generated as your bodies response to the SARS-CoV-2 virus, depending on the specificity of the method of detection. They don’t necessarily tell you if you’ve just caught COVID-19 from the SARS-CoV-2 virus. That is, they don’t “catch the virus red-handed.”
I don’t know what this guys are arguing about are arguing about, Trump might have promised them the test kits, but it doesn’t mean that he has them or he is actually willing to give them to them for free. If current form Congress is going to get shit from him.
Dear Kevin, we do not have a functioning government because the Trump administration refuses to do anything. The only thing McConnell is interested in is ramming through judicial confirmations. The Speaker is working on legislation perhaps you should call her?
The GOP House leader argued that it was a matter of not allowing the government to “collapse” as members of Congress are kept from convening.
