House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) on Tuesday once again refused to go to bat for Rep. Liz Cheney (R-WY) as House Republicans threaten to oust the third-ranking Republican as conference chair.
That reminds me of the last time I bought a dictionary and the clerk asked “will there be anything else?”
…and I answered “Why? Every word in all your other books is in this book.”
Common reflections on the current state of the Republican Party is that it is a post-policy party. There are no ideas of policy beyond what measures can be taken to give them control. Rock throwers, also poo throwers, have become the public faces of the party. Liz Cheney, as hideous as her libertarian positions are, is still a policy wonk. It will be curious to see how effectively her replacement can advance that policy-less rock throwing. These people are doomed as a political brand of marketable ideas.
All of this Trump-related GOP lock-step is taking place in an atmosphere in which Trump is not a potential felon.
Not to mention the above affecting Trump Crew. The Trump Minions. The GOP/Trump Senate.
I do not believe that the our Justice System is going to collectively forget that the last six or so years ever happened w/r/t TrumpWorld’s criminality.
It’s darkly funny that the only person to ever wield such complete control over a political party in this country is so profoundly uninterested in doing anything with it other than getting tongue-baths.
McCarthy’s mealy-mouthed “passing up a chance to defend” isn’t exactly a full-throated call for Cheney to go. It sounds to me like he doesn’t have to votes to push her out yet.
Also, since this is Fox & Friends, McCarthy is basically talking to an audience of one. It’s you-know-who’s favorite show, so he’s showing fealty to Dear Leader. Cheney may lose her position eventually, but I don’t think it’s a sure thing yet. There may be enough R’s in the House who are still skittish about banking everything on Trump going forward.
