Andrew McCabe’s attorney said Saturday that the former FBI deputy director would not appear at a Senate Judiciary Committee hearing next week after two of its members tested positive for COVID-19, The Hill reports.
McCabe’s attorney said that the former FBI official would be willing to offer testimony “in the future when it is safe to do so. But he is not willing to put his family’s health at risk to do so.”
and more:
“A fair and appropriate hearing of this kind - which is complex and contentious - simply cannot be conducted other than in person,” McCabe’s attorney wrote, per The Hill.
Told the wife earlier today that the Democrats on the Senate Judiciary Committee should refuse to attend the Barrett “hearings” for the same reason. It gives them a legitimate out rather saying they won’t legitimize a corrupt process or disparaging Barrett’s viewpoints. Now they have a precedent, and we know that GOP lawyers like Graham and Barrett have deep respect for precedent.
Good for him making this decision to protect his own health. These pukes have shown no responsibility in guarding against infecting others and still seem to blow the whole thing off like their Dear Leader.
Speaking of which I just read a tweet in which Ron Johnson tested positive for the virus and still decided to go to an Oktoberfest fundraising after that thereby exposing others. They all have been so negligent in that respect. They just ignore the science and could care less about the health and safety of others. Fuck them.
And he was inside the White House shaking hands and meeting with Barrett, tRump and Melania. A far worse environment for the virus to easily spread. Needless to say, no masks.
I think McCabe’s stance may partially be to set the tone and help with that effort. He knows that rushing the confirmation and rushing Barrett onto the Court is not good for the Court or the country.
Always liked McCabe despite somme flaws. He seems to one of the honest FBI agents with integrity. Unlike Comey.
OT- "In consultation with my doctors, I checked myself into Morristown Medical Center this afternoon. While I am feeling good and only have mild symptoms, due to my history of asthma we decided this is an important precautionary measure, Christie tweeted.
Must be nice to have a Cadillac health care plan paid by the taxpayers.
Wish I did.
