But Trump does have a very strong cult of personality (weird and sick though it may be, most cults of personality are) that’s just about him. That’s something Gaetz doesn’t have, at least.

I totally agree. I can’t get worked up about Trump nominations, because the voters knew who Trump is, what company he keeps, and what he wanted to do and they still went ahead and voted for him. So if you want to blame someone, blame your neighbor yes that one with the American flag hanging from his house.

In the end, it still believe it was stabbing Kevin McCarthy in the back that doomed Gaetz. And, yes, that is related to his whole sordid sex scandal.
But the back-stabbing is what made him a pariah in Congress. And unconfirmable in the Senate.

It was the unfounded denials that annoyed me.
Note that Gaetz attacked the credibility of then 17 year old at a point in time when he was no longer a representative IIRC. If so, he laid himself open to a defamation suit.
