The new House subcommittee focused on the “weaponization” of the federal government is filling out its roster which, as reporters unearthed Tuesday, now includes Florida Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL).
Jim Jordan has no credibility to question or criticize anyone until he sits down, opens his phone, and shows the American people what he was talking to insurrectionists about on January 6.
Part of me thinks this is all good, since All Crazy All The Time will reveal today’s GOP in full color and in full view of sane voters everywhere. At the same time, it really disheartens me to have to watch this clown show for two years and realize that nothing worthwhile will get done…

This will become more apparent with the rollout of what Uncle Joe was talking about in red states and districts

ETA. I looked it up. It’s a subcommittee of Judiciary. Dan Goldman is one of the Ds. He definitely has chops.

If he was in communication with any of the physical insurrectionists on or about January 6, we’d already know about it because all of their phones have been vacuumed up. I very much doubt Jordan was in on the conspiracy to obstruct the official proceeding via the mob assault. His potential criminal jeopardy is on the conspiracy to defraud the United States via the fake electors/Pence Gambit, but I would not expect him or any other member of Congress to face charges on it unless there is proof they did more than just agree to object to the true electors.
ETA: He is definitely covering up by not testifying, but I expect it’s more about covering up on behalf of the actual criminal conspirators, not for himself.
Maybe Jordan used a burner. And outgoing messages from any other participants in the day’s events took pains not to reference him in a way that exposed his identity during the exchange of texts.
Maybe space aliens planted a secret telecommunications device in his rectum and that’s how he secretly coordinated the insurrection with the Proud Boys and the Ghost of Xenu.
But that’s not really a helpful line of inquiry either.
None of those burners were used by the actual physical insurrectionists, and everyone already knows that burner phones are a thing. There is ZERO evidence that Gym Jordan used one. You’re just speculating for the sake of remaining in a state of epistemological uncertainty.
ETA: And we know which phones the actual insurrectionists were using because they were communicating amongst themselves and posting from them as well. It is not rational to suppose that maybe they all had burner phones where the real shit was going down while they were still documenting their crimes on their regular phones. If Gym or Fat Donnie or Rudy dialed up Enrique Tarrio or whoever on the ground, we’d already know it.
And, I might add, what he witnessed on the mats and in the locker rooms at OSU.
I am fully supportive of Matt Gaetz doing nothing on the doing-nothing subcommittee.
