Departing Kentucky Gov. Matt Bevin (R) claimed on Wednesday that he lost his reelection bid to Gov.-elect Andy Beshear (D) because those on the left are “getting so good at harvesting votes in the urban communities.”
I think those are the same ones they use to make Nebraska wine. Went to a wine tasting at a Lincoln winery once. I wouldn’t use their award winning wine in cooking.
“That’s what we get for relenting on the poll taxes, ownership of property and literacy requirements after Reconstruction and Jim Crow. The coloreds come up in here and took over our urban communities, and look where it’s gotten us. Well, you don’t have Matt Bevin to kick around anymore.”
“They were able to go into urban communities where people are densely populated on college campuses and in public housing projects,” Bevin said. The governor drew a binary between the two groups, arguing that they’re “at both ends of the socioeconomic spectrum” with “different levels of education attainment” and “of different race.”
Maybe it was comments like these that helped make it such a bountiful harvest.
Or maybe only whites are allowed to attend college and only blacks and browns are allowed to be poor in Kentucky.
First, Bevin lost because he is a total asshole. He ran behind every other republican. If he was not a total asshole he would be governor today.
Second, turn-out efforts are ALWAYS the key. Big $$$ needs to be put into the infrastructure to get out the vote by our side. Every possible voter needs to be contacted, tracked, and then repeatedly reminded if they have not voted.
I’m sortof done calling this shit “dogwhistling” though. This was an obvious and naked appeal to white Christian nationalism, its racist stereotypes of diverse high population areas and the lifetime of acculturation into geographical cultural resentment suffered by its adherents. There is no plausible deniability to it anymore and nothing silent about the racist ideas it conveys.
