A lot of things happened. Here are some of the things. This is TPM’s Morning Memo.
Clearly sick of being pushed on the criminal investigation into the Trump Organization that he seemed to have unraveled, Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg put out a somewhat irritated announcement on Thursday clarifying that the probe is still going on.

Maybe Just A Tad Defensive
Clearly sick of being pushed on the criminal investigation into the Trump Organization that he seemed to have unraveled,…
.
Something is going on under the surface with Bragg and this Trump investigation. He has some sort of secret motivation for allowing this to go flaccid under his watch.

Before firing a rocket at a train station pull of desperate refugees, the people who did it amusingly wrote on the side of it, “For the children.” Because they’re psychopaths.

And I think with two veteran prosecutors having quit in disgust, we’re going to need more assurance than just your say-so, Alvin.

Manhattan DA Wants You To Know His Trump Probe Isn’t Dead, Okay???
It’s not dead; it’s resting.
Free Speech For People, the nonpartisan good governance group that’s been leading voters’ lawsuits to get several Trump goons in Congress kicked off the ballot for helping Trump fuel the Jan. 6 Capitol attack, has expanded the effort.
If they’re never revealed and tried, this movement will go nowhere. Have to have the proof first and right now we have none.
Sen. Brian Schatz (D-HI) took to the Senate floor and ripped Sen. Josh Hawley (R-MO) a new one on Thursday
Just more publicity for Hawley - can’t shame the shameless.

If being on a ventilator is “resting”, um, yeah.

How the hell did he ever end up in that position? I saw part of an interview following his announcement. He did himself no favors, inspiring absolutely zero confidence.

Another shadow docket decision last night.
By a 5 to 4 decision, the court last night limited the power of states to stop big development projects that state officials worry will hurt the state’s environment. It did so under the so-called “shadow docket,” a system, rarely used in the past but now a key part of the court’s decision-making process, in which the court hands down decisions on an emergency basis without briefings or written decisions, so we have no idea on what grounds they are making their ruling. The American Petroleum Institute, the Interstate National Gas Association of America, and the National Hydropower Association all applauded the decision.
ETA that was done Wednesday night, so it’s probably been covered. Are these decisions getting covered in the MSM? Most people probably aren’t even aware of these sneaky court decisions.

To this I say “whatever.” It’s 20-fucking-22 and we’re still at this? At some point we gotta accept the fact Trump isn’t going to be charged with anything serious, he’s not going to jail, there’s no superhero prosecutor who “knows where the bodies are buried.” There are no bodies. Enough with this sideshow.

IANAL but to me the ‘shadow docket’ is nothing more than this scotus employing the traditional conservative (fascist) strategy of ‘because we say so’. Expanding the court needs to happen yesterday.

What has people upset is what you say is true. Trump could call a press conference, unveil a woodchipper, and start feeding infants into it, and a year later prosecutors would still be interviewing witnesses.

Oh don’t be so negative! We have the best legal system that money can buy. /s

Did America even HEAR of this concept of ‘shadow docket’ before Kav and Handmaiden made it to the court?
It’s the lack of accountability that weakens the argument that the docket is necessary. The Right screams bloody murder when votes in Congress are taken on bills they ‘haven’t yet read’. Why is this ok (other than they’re Republican, which the court isn’t supposed to be, but is)?
