The Manhattan District Attorney’s office subpoenaed the Trump Organization on Thursday for information related to hush money payments made to a porn actress and a Playboy model during the 2016 presidential election, The New York Times reported.
Trump Organization lawyer Marc Mukasey told the Times that the subpoena was just another “political hit job.”
“It’s just harassment of the president, his family and his business, using subpoenas as weapons. We will respond as appropriate,” he told the Times.
But … I thought the so-called president* didn’t have anything to do with the business anymore. In fact, I bet he’s so far removed from it that he wouldn’t even know about this subpoena if it wasn’t in the news.
(*Illegitimate president put in office by Russian interference in 2016 election)
I’m sure these payoffs somehow fall under the cover of executive privilege. A President must be able to conduct relationships with porn stars and adult magazine models without fear outsiders will have knowledge of what transpires between them. Retroactively.
Fight the subpoenas, fight against anyone in Trump Org answering any questions about this, give presidential instructions not to talk or provide documents, hire more lawyers to appear in federal court and sue the Manhattan DA, investigators, and his dog.
I’m sure there’s a Trump-appointed federal judge out there who will have have grave concerns about the fairness to Trump and try to prevent the New York state courts and Manhattan DA from doing the jobs that should be exclusively theirs.
I think you meant “Presidential and Campaign Advisors.”
And it’s so sad! Here he had to go to Ohio to find some love, and then this happens! Now he has to find somewhere else to rally! It means he has to be around…urgh…the people.
People opposed to Trump resort to the thought that someday, somehow he’ll be called to account for his crimes, because no man is above the law, and that is a lesson he’ll soon learn.
On this point they are inappropriately sanguine, in my estimation.
Maybe it’s a Friday kind of feeling, but Trumpmentum appears to be losing force – Republican retirements, the building support for impeachment, the extra-curricular state probes, and Epstein – that one is a game-changer. I’ve been following it closely. He is the now the Great White Whale of the press, and they have manned the whalers, and every harpoon strike nicks another member of the “elite.” It’s going to matter – and this is bigger than Weinstein, Steve Wynn or Bill Cosby. The atmosphere feels different.
Before I begin, I’ll say that I’m NOT in favor of mafia style “justice”. Now, having said that, the so-called “president” has recently called out Michael Cohen’s father in law (no secret what business ties he has), and a NY Times article a few days ago connects the dots in the first Epstein charges back to trump, implying that he “ratted” Epstein out — not out of conscience but because of a feud over what else? Money and real estate.
I do wonder if despite all the court packing and lackeys in his orbit now, he may get his, someday…
But maybe that’s another movie for another time.
Trump has the money, resources, connections, power and position to litigate any criminal charges to the point any resolution causing him true harm or sanction would be inflicted just about in time for his funeral. He’s 73. He can push this stuff down the road for the better part of a decade if he’s willing to spend the time and money doing it.
Every fad eventually gets old and boring for most people. Hit shows jump the shark, hot fashion turns old fashioned. Cheatolini is starting to get stale and he’s appearing less and less in the headlines.
We’ve got another year to go. He’s not going to improve. Many/most people outside of the koolaid are ignoring his tweets and his frenetic shrieking for attention. But lots of people are beginning to get tired of the constant drama.
They usually have a central cast character give birth to a child. Pebbles and Bamm-Bamm, Tabitha, Katie’s triplets (I still can’t believe anyone would have sex with Robbie, sheesh). Nothing ruins a good thing like a baby.
“It’s just harassment of the president, his family and his business, using subpoenas as weapons."
Wait … I thought Trump was big on “Law & Order”. Nothing says Law & Order louder than subpoenas. Perhaps Trump (and some other people I could name) have a different concept of Law & Order than most of us.
With Cyrus Vance in charge I won’t hold out a lot of hope of this going anywhere, remember he had Ivanka and Jared in his sights before and all it took was nice campaign contribution to make it go away.
Previously, Vance nearly indicted Ivanka & Don Jr. The Trump’s settled with the buyers but extracted a rare concession in return that the plaintiffs agreed not to cooperate with prosecutors unless they were subpoenaed.
ProPublica, WNYC, and the New Yorker opined that Vance did that the “right thing” by dropping the case, citing the civil settlement.
So high probability that if found guilty, Trump Org/et might settle again with the Manhattan DA and just be fined.
You will respond by producing the documents in the subpoena, unless you want to be disbarred like Mannafort et al. Did you forget that the Manhattan US Attorney’s office granted immunity to Allen Weisselberg aka "Executive 1"? Easy to do with so many papers flying around!
