Good news. Now on to replacing Clarence…

ā€œCan Joe Manchin explain to West Virginians why he’s supporting this pedophile apologist?ā€ Donald Trump Jr. asked on Twitter.

They supported your dad, asshole, and he actually is a pedophile.

If there had been any other answer, I just might have been on a plane to WV.

Oy.

Uh, who said anything about Machine supporting DJT Jr.?

There will be Republican votes. I think many of them were appalled by the kkk clown car.

Mitch gave his perfunctory no, but doubt he’ll require all senate cowards to follow his pathetic opinion. He’s evil, not stupid.

Well, thank goodness. What a nice man. Meanwhile, #moscowmitch announced his total opposition to the nomination today. Quelle surprise!

Manchin was very pleased Judge Jackson spent a lot time in WV.

Sadly, he was just released from the hospital. The good die young, but the bastards live forever.

I have every confidence in Ginni’s continued skillfulness at ventriloquism.

And the beauty is, it doesn’t matter if her lips move a little…

What a generous POS bastard.

No senator will be more relieved than Susan Collins about Manchin’s yes vote. That way, Collins runs no risk of being the deciding vote in Jackson’s favor. Actually, Murkowski may vote for Jackson too, making it a 52-48 vote assuming Sinema and Collins both vote yes. Possibly one of the retiring Republican senators from Ohio or Pennsylvania may in a moment of decency vote for Jackson. I would not make that bet though, since that would go counter to #MoscowMitch’s ambition to regain the Senate Majority Leader role by painting Jackson as unworthy of confirmation. They didn’t vote for her in 2021 for appeals court judge.

In a sane world, Clarence Thomas would be pressured to resign from the Supreme Court – or be impeached. And convicted. Sadly, we live in Bizarro World now.

I expect you might be right about the GOP (not GQP) votes. There are a few Senators that are not up for re-election and this, by the time they are up again, will no longer be an issue for anyone.

This is an immediate outrage campaign that has no relevance in the grand scheme of things. I’m just disappointed in Durban and the others that they allowed the performative nonsense to go on unabated.

This is why I didn’t give a lot of credence to the people complaining that Democrats didn’t fight hard enough for Brown. Joe Manchin is a fucking idiot. If he saw some liberal Democrats digging in and trashing the Republicans as they deserve, he might use it as an excuse to both sides the situation and tank the nomination. He sees politics as a high school popularity contest. The worst thing we could do is let him think he’s the reasonable guy sticking up to angry liberals and minorities. Sinema is much the same, perhaps even more venal. Don’t give them an excuse, at least when there is no real benefit other than good feels for liberal political junkies like ourselves.

We can’t know for sure what another strategy would have resulted in, but it’s looking like this strategy is going to result in Brown on the court. That’s the most important thing.

It was painful, but ignoring it was like giving them enough rope to repulse the other (semi reasonable) gop Senators.

Sen. Joe Manchin (D-WV) said Friday that he intends to vote for Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson, all but ensuring her confirmation to the Supreme Court.

ā€œAfter meeting with her, considering her record, and closely monitoring her testimony and questioning before the Senate Judiciary Committee this week, I have determined that I intend to vote for her nomination to serve on the Supreme Court,ā€ he said in a statement.

Some on the right had tried to sway Manchin, and fellow party-bucker Sen. Kyrsten Sinema (D-AZ), with a debunked-line of attack about her leniency on possessors of child pornography.
… … … … …

Has anybody asked Sinema if she will bother to vote? Mebbe do a curtsy and thumbs up? She is one who absolutely does not belong in any elected office.

I don’t agree with ignoring it.

It should have been shut down to the point of expelling them from the hearing room. It was unnecessary, unprofessional, and downright rude, not to mention there was no basis in fact for any of it. She’s under oath - why aren’t they? I know the Senate and House have become more like boxing rings lately, but Durban had the opportunity to shut this crap down and he didn’t. He did a ā€˜now, Johnny…’ type of discipline that doesn’t work for four year olds and certainly didn’t work with Cruz and Graham.

If we can’t count on any level of decorum from the chairmen of the committees, it will just be a trainwreck like we saw earlier this week. Doesn’t do anything for the reputation of the chambers or of government.

Yeah, I guess it’s a story when Manchin supports the nominee of his party.

I look forward to the day when we take so many Senate seats that this wannabe kingmaker is relegated to total irrelevance.
