Sen. Joe Manchin (D-WV) said on Sunday that he had enjoyed a good relationship with then-President Donald Trump, with whom the senator said he had frequent conversations.
I get more anxious every day for Manchin’s accidental power to come to an end. He’s like the Democrats’ Romney – old-school, mostly irrelevant, and inspires ire in his own party. What an inspiration.
I hope he’s taking Biden’s calls, too, and realizes the Democrats (of which he sometimes purportedly is one) are in it for the public service - with or without Republican support.
And, BTW Joe, the Republicans still have that fever and pent-up hatred of people that they like to unleash. So, please take that into consideration if you still disagree with that kind of thing.
Manchin is a Democrat when it matters most. He wanders off with silly statements like this, but as everyone knows, he does the right thing more often than not. Statements like this are posturing, as was his flirtation with endorsing Trump. He never would have endorsed Trump, but playing that way makes him different from other Democrats who people in his state view as wildly leftist.
If Manchin, or a John Bel Edwards, or someone like them, ever won the Democratic nomination, which I know they won’t, he/she would probably win the general handily. They are viewed as measured and centrist by many, and that is not a bad thing, particularly when you have to win in a place like WV or LA.
“The whole principle of public service is to bring people together to get a consensus. And Donald Trump’s not made that way,” the senator told USA Today. “So when I started coming to that conclusion, I’m thinking that’s just a lot of rhetoric. I didn’t know there was that type of fever and pent-up hatred in people he allowed them to unleash.”
Manchin also voted twice to convict Trump and remove him from office, voted to defend the ACA and voted against the Trump tax law. Some perspective, folks.
“The whole principle of public service is to bring people together to get a consensus."
No, you dipshit, the whole principle of public service is to get shit done for the people of this country. Consensus is what you beg for when you’re a loser.
