Manchin Brushes Off Harris’ Interview: ‘There’s No Apologies Needed’

Aren’t they fabulous.

It’s the best most productive Pres/VP relationship I’ve seen since Obama/Biden.

And he is after all, many people are saying in the hallway, the guy that Santa Claus gets his lumps of coal from.

I think Manchin has just experienced what the whole of Congress is about to experience: grandstanding and tweeting bullshit to grab the headlines is over. Governing is upon them, and competent people who are on the right side of history are doing it. Congresscritters had best recalibrate or it’s not going to go well for them.

I thought Obama and Biden were the New Age. With Biden and Harris, I just realized all great sagas require a Part II. It took Tolkien three books, so…

I suspect it was a well choreographed dance. Manchin (and Jim Justice) may have needed some some pressure to get convinced. It was also important for Harris to talk to Manchin’s constituents – both to explain how the bill will help them and as 2022 outreach. On the other hand, Manchin could not afford appearance of buckling under the pressure so he voiced objections. His “graciousness” in not demanding an apology is also a sign of a “strong man”. Now with that behind everyone Manchin can commit to voting for the bill.

This doesn’t speak well for the best of his abilities. Neither has the last 4 years plus half a month.

I don’t understand. A non-white female spoke… and she doesn’t need to apologize? WTF? That sort of thing would never have been permitted back when our Beloved Orange Shit-Stain was Presidunce.

I just have to wonder if all this theater was necessary, and, if so, why?

Meanwhile, Tucker! Tonight! Democrats in disarray! Liberals gone wild!

I always trusted Harris to be an effective Manchin-whisperer.

“It was a mistake. They made a mistake,” he added. “And we understand. We move on. You can’t dwell on those things.”

It is pretty obvious that he got the word from West Virginia that he should go big or not go home. Biden let him forgive Harris in exchange for his vote. Harris’ ploy worked like a charm. Well played Mr. President, well played.

Lots of lefty liberals forget this because they want every Democrat to support the most extreme left policies. Manchin is a Democrat that can win in a state where only Republicans should win, so he should be given space to represent his constituents the best he can, even if that keeps him from voting for some policies. I mean, look at Gov. Justice…he was a Democrat and switched so he could keep winning, at least Manchin is sticking to the party. Just imagine what McConnell would give Manchin if he would switch to the Republicans right now…

hahahahaha It did.

I can’t say Obama was the warm up act - that’s not fair to Obama. But dayum.

Except for the hundreds of House “representatives” firmly entrenched by gerrymandering (Jackie Walorski-Indiana 2nd District, Exhibit A).

He got out-maneuvered into a perfect pincer operation:

  • VP Harris on the left;
  • WV Governor Justice on the right.

President Biden knows how to work the Hill and beyond. He’s effectively silenced the Bernie-left and is now letting the “centrist” and deficit hawk wing know who’s President & party leader.

Posturing.

Well, this puts a kibosh on the Democrats in disarray meme.
What’s a pundit to do?

This is not a question I’m qualified to give an answer to. But I would guess the reason is that at the moment Manchin is the only Democrat who can be elected statewide in WV and Democrats don’t want to jeopardize his seat even if the election is not until 2024. In addition, he is really a conservative Democrat, in fact, very conservative for today’s Democrat. So he may really needed the pressure and the rest is maintaining optics.
