Making Sense Of What’s Happening In Congress As GOP Barrels Toward A Shutdown

TPM’s Emine Yücel contributed reporting from Capitol Hill.

For weeks, senators have given off a whiff of superiority when they mention the sheer chaos in the lower chamber as hardline House Republicans completely derail the appropriations process.

Honestly, nothing the MAGA GoP does makes any sense, even from the narrow perspective of self-interest. Even the clowns in a clown show know that they are performing for a reason.

Sorry, being first without a cat picture is a breach of protocol.

Kevin McCarthy values his so-called job as Speaker of the House above EVERYTHING else, including the best interests of the United States. He is a vacuous coward held hostage to fanatics.

In a caucus of fools, McCarthy knows that he wants to remain the leading fool.

He’s a willing hostage.

Yup, the worst kind.

I wish (hahahah) the media would stop portraying him as a hapless oaf. He’s an oaf but he’s allowing this all to happen.

Republicans hate government, hate democracy and hate the United States.

They love a cult leader, Vlad Putin and chaos.

Why does anyone vote GQP?

“Everyone knows that the GOP’s proposed CR is a non-starter here in the Senate,” Schumer said Tuesday. “Let me say that again: everyone knows that the House GOP’s proposed CR will not pass the Senate.–emphasis added

And that, right there, is the plan. Pass crap out of the House and then loudly proclaim THE SENATE DEMS SHUT DOWN THE GOVERNMENT

The mere mention of a cat evokes an image of a cat in my mind.

Trying to make sense of RW insanity is a worthless endeavor. They are going to do what they are going to do, let them reap the whirlwind they so richly deserve.

The Burn It Down Party can try and we’ll see how they do next November at the polls.

Absolutely nothing, because the party controlling the House can’t even agree on whether or not they control the House.

About the Senate side this piqued my interest.

Now, Senate Democrats have set up a vote to suspend the Senate rules, bypass Johnson’s blockade and keep the bills moving. That’ll take an initial vote, planned for Wednesday, to advance the motion to suspend the rules with a 60 vote threshold. To suspend the rules themselves, it’ll take 67 votes — and Senate Republicans are suddenly losing interest in being happy collaborators.

Is this why they aren’t trying this with Tuberville’s hold?

“We’ve got to give Speaker McCarthy the room he needs to try to figure that out,” Sen. John Cornyn (R-TX) told Politico. “He pulled a rabbit out of the hat on the debt ceiling. So I wouldn’t underestimate him.”

I’m not sure it is actually possible to underestimate Kevin McCardboard. No matter how low your expectations are, he manages to crawl, dig, or slither his way under them.

Also, what – is RoJo feeling some competitive pressure from Coach Potatoville for the “dumbest Senator” title?
