I live in France. I will never return to the US. You are welcome to it. But from where I sit, as a brutally realistic historian, we are simply at the end of the human project. It is that simple. In Genoa last June a couple asked me my plans if Europe goes to war: “Stay here and die as long as some of the continent remains on the right side of history". That was and is my response. People are simply in denial about how perilous and delicate the situation is.
I have no escape plan except this: a case of champagne as destruction becomes imminent. Then I will go out on a bridge of my beautiful French city and drink it and get horribly drunk and wait. Wait for the end, as I guzzle French champagne and kiss my wife.
Fuck the people who voted for this. Fuck the Republicans. And fuck their king.

Yes. Greenland is another distraction, just like Venezuela is. They’re going after Cuba. Venezuela was just for practice. They’ll probably let Maduro go.

I feel the same way down here in Belize. I deliberately chose this country because it seemed to be the most peaceful place on earth. Now tRump is essentially in my backyard. I think Cuba is next and it’s just a small distance from here. I hope things work out well for you there in France
