MAGA Wing Makes Noise About McCarthy Speakership With No Alternative

The cartoonish staring contest between the House Republicans has lingered this week, with neither side showing any signs of blinking. The small but mighty chorus of MAGA-aligned detractors in Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy’s (R-CA) caucus have stepped up their opposition and are now calling on McCarthy to drop out so they can find an alternative.

GOP is in disarray, they should be. It’s because the GOP has no values, no achievements, and no credibility.

The Dems will become the House majority in 2022, anyway. The GOP will show themselves as even more worthless and obstructionist than the last two years.

Does the speakership election require 218 votes, or can it be settled by plurality?

Nope. The secret candidate is somebody who’s quickly becoming nobody. But my question is can you be speaker from a courtroom or prison?

He can avoid it now.

Apparently the only thing conservatives hate more than liberals are Republicans.

McCarthy pretty much sold his soul to Donald Trump in order to get in this mess. Though it’s not possible to predict exactly how this will play out, I’ll wager that McCarthy we’ll spend nearly every minute of every day over the next two years lamenting that decision. Poetic justice comes in many forms.

Majority of those naming someone on their ballot. So voting “present” does not increase the threshold to win.

Has there ever been a House Speaker who wasn’t a member of Congress?

This is their entire shtick on display. The GOP has given up governance in favor of performance art. They don’t care what happens, they care about looking good. The goal here is to attack McCarthy, not pick a speaker.

Andy Biggs, along with Paul Gosar are an embarrassment to my state.

That said there’s this about the Georgia run-off…

Overall, 52% of likely voters say they plan to support Warnock in Tuesday’s runoff and 48% pick Walker. Partisans on both sides are deeply entrenched, with nearly all Democrats (99%) behind Warnock and 95% of Republicans backing Walker. Independents break in Warnock’s favor, 61% to 36%, but make up a relatively small slice of likely voters, 17%, compared with 24% in a CNN exit poll of voters in the first round of this contest last month.
