More History Erasure From Trump’s National Park Service
The Philadelphia Inquirer finds mentions of slavery have been removed from sites in Philadelphia’s Independence National Historical Park, in addition to the National Park Service’s removal of a larger exhibit at the President’s House in Philadelphia last year. It is yet another sign that “that the administration is not letting any stone go unturned when it comes to ridding or softening even smaller mentions of slavery at Philadelphia’s most iconic historic sites ahead of the 250th anniversary.”

Iran wants its money. NYT liveblog:
A spokesman for the foreign ministry of Qatar, a key mediator between the United States and Iran, said that $6 billion of frozen Iranian assets had not been transferred to Iran. The preliminary deal, or memorandum of understanding, between the two countries to end hostilities said the United States had agreed “to make fully available for use the frozen or restricted funds and assets” upon implementation of the agreement. But the spokesman, Majed al-Ansari, said the negotiations over how that would happen had not taken place.
Iran’s foreign ministry spokesman, Esmael Baghaei, said on Tuesday that no meeting with U.S. officials had been scheduled “at any level” in the coming days, pushing back on suggestions that talks could take place in Doha, Qatar with negotiators from both sides in the city. “What will take place in Doha tomorrow is a discussion regarding the implementation of certain provisions of the Memorandum of Understanding, including the release of Iran’s frozen assets,” he said. “These talks are being held with the Qatari side.”
$6 billion in Iranian frozen assets is held in Qatari banks, apparently under US control of some kind. Looks like nothing moves forward now until that’s released.

Across the globe the far right has learned the best and easiest way to get what it wants is to never stop whining. Misguided institutionalists/centrists think they can defang or placate it by knuckling under or adopting diluted versions of far right policies and it never works. If SCOTUS upheld outlawing the Democratic Party Bannon would respond with a furious tirade that they didn’t allow for death camps.

Iran and U.S.-allied Oman are moving forward with plans to collect payment for ships transiting the Strait of Hormuz, despite public American objections, according to an Iranian official and four diplomats with knowledge of the matter.
Oman’s proposal is partly modeled on arrangements in the Straits of Malacca and Singapore, an Asian waterway where a private foundation collects voluntary contributions for safe navigation, the regional diplomat said.
Any fees in the Strait of Hormuz would be voluntary, the diplomat said. The Iranian official, however, said that the payments would be obligatory.

The continued misunderstanding about vote counting just baffles me. They seem to think that whoever has more votes by a certain day and time is the winner. Not counting every vote–just counting votes up to that deadline. Ill-informed or simply mendacious?

It’s all opportunistic and would be completely inverted if GQP voters were the ones with more election-determining ballots in long running counts.
Then, they’d be on “every ballot must be counted.”
That is, if they weren’t a minority party.

…the First Amendment’s establishment clause and free exercise clause create that separation [of church and state] — but the Christian right believes it has never had a better opportunity to weave support for Christianity into all levels of government policy and make its tendentious reading of the Constitution a reality. Not only do they have a president happy to do so, but the Supreme Court has for years been waging an attack on church-state separation — as long as Christians are the ones being protected.

The GQP has spent my whole life creating an affordability – funny that Dear Leader would pretend that’s a new word – case against the programs.
By consistently cutting taxes and running up the national debt when they’re in power, and hypocritically harping on the dangers of insolvency, they set up a case that the nation just can’t afford these programs anymore.
W, IIRC, took a shot at it. His abject failure doesn’t mean the idea has been retired.

I’m going with willfully ignorant for MAGA voters who believe this crap, and mendacious election meddling for the rightwing politicians who want to stop vote counts at midnight on election day.
They’re responding to the fact that in many elections it can look like the R’s have won by midnight with in-person vote counts, and later counts of mail-in ballots postmarked by election day shift the results to a D win. So all those later counts must be fraudulent!
Yet one more reason why all states should use 100% vote-by-mail (with some accommodations) like in WA and other states, where you don’t see skewed vote totals on election day.
