In a raid earlier this month, the FBI recovered dozens of classified documents at Donald Trump’s Mar-a-Lago home and resort, months after Trump’s lawyers swore they’d turned everything over to the government. Federal prosecutors filed a startling photo of some of those documents in court Tuesday, and said they’d found evidence of a likely effort to obstruct their investigation into missing federal records.
Let’s just stop referring to Trump, in the context of the government’s documents at Mar-a-Loco, as the “former president.” He’s just citizen Trump, and he has none of the magical powers that he thinks let him do magical things just by thinking of them and to violate the laws of the United States, that he believed he had while he was a resident at the WH. He didn’t have them then, and he certainly doesn’t have them now that he’s just an ordinary schmo.
“That the FBI, in a matter of hours, recovered twice as many documents with classification markings as the ‘diligent search’ that the former President’s counsel and other representatives had weeks to perform calls into serious question the representations made in the June 3 certification and casts doubt on the extent of cooperation in this matter.”
Riiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiight…the FBI just threw stuff on the floor to take pictures. Please don’t notice how anything that actually might be sensitive has been “redacted” by covering up legible text with paper.

In June, one of Trump’s records custodians – believed to be Christina Bobb, one of Trump’s lawyers and former One America News Network host – signed a letter stating that a “diligent search was conducted of the boxes** that were moved from the White House to Florida,” and that Trump’s team was, at the time, handing over everything they’d found. asterisks added
**Please note, the term “boxes” does not include, rucksacks, backpacks, gunnysacks, duffel bags, filing cabinets or similar non-box means of conveyance
As Colombo said in yesterday’s thread, how did tRump know which docs to declassify before the FBI planted them at Mal a Lardo? Or something to that effect.
I strongly suspect that Trump’s lawyers- the ones who certified no more sensitive documents- are in a heap of trouble themselves. Or should I call them ‘soon to be disbarred attorneys !’
“For Sabina, living in truth, lying neither to ourselves nor to others, was possible only away from the public: the moment someone keeps an eye on what we do, we involuntarily make allowances for that eye, and nothing we do is truthful. Having a public, keeping a public in mind, means living in lies.” ― Milan Kundera, The Unbearable Lightness of Being
It continues to impress me how the defense rationale continues to evolve. There is a vestige of the “planted documents” claim that emerged right after the search. Now there is a reassertion of document declassification as though these illogical streams will dissipate the investigation. To be quite honest, I cannot figure out what legal strategy is pursued here. None of it makes any sense.
