I really hope someone at DoD has already dispatched USNS Comfort towards New Orleans and the Gulf Coast.

If only Biden had encouraged people to get vaccinated.

The coming days and weeks will be an extreme test of the LA hospital system. I trust Bel Edwards is doing his best, but there is only so much they can plan ahead for .

The Comfort and the Mercy aren’t the best for covid wards. They’re really set up for surgical capability and outfitted for that. The idea in NYC was that they would take on that to free up more resources in the hospitals for covid. Largely didn’t happen because the personnel ended up going into the facilities to work, that’s why we haven’t seen them playing a role since.

More efficient and effective to set up field hospitals and/or surge in personnel and equipment into existing facilities. That’ll likely be the case once the storm is passed.

I think they are going to need Comfort there (and maybe some cruise ships) to be part of the field hospitals for the folks who get hurt in the storm. Not for covid. Same idea as for NYC, even if that didn’t happen then.
Right now, there’s nowhere for injured folks in LA to go.
If they have major power losses, I guess that will help clear the ICU’s…which is heartbreaking at best.

Well, the ship could sail right across land to wherever it’s needed right about now.

His failure to achieve that goal is casting a shadow over his administration. Some question his capacity for leadership, especially in light of the previous administration’s efforts to find bold new ways to avert hurricanes.

His own damned fault. When he only targeted getting to 70% vaccinated, he was deliberately ordering the other 30% to remain vulnerable. Shameful.

If only he had thought to do something that would work! That would obviously have been preferable.

Ivermectin in every mailbox would have been a start.

I think for a few days people are just going to have to make up their minds not to have heart attacks or strokes and so forth.

I’m wondering when folks are going to notice that this was a mere tropical depression on Thursday, before Biden needed a big distraction from the news out of Afghanistan.

Notice how he sent in the “storm hunter” planes, clearly cloud-seeding operation.

They’re putting the vaccine in the storm, see. And now it’s going to where? Louisiana! Don’t you get it? It all fits!

We’re watching the South’s (and LA’s, in particular) healthcare systems collapse. “Excess deaths” are going to go through the roof.

“This is a major, major storm that’s going to test us in ways that we’ve not been tested before, for a lot of reasons,” Edwards said. “But this COVID situation is certainly one of them.”

Message to the un-vaccinated: It’s not just your own life that you’re putting at risk. Your ignorant and willful defiance is putting the lives of millions of others at risk, as well. May this fact weigh upon your dark souls forever.

I make that choice for myself, every single day! So far, so good.
