The Full Package Over the weekend and into today, TPM has been reporting on the growing Democratic opposition to the Department of Homeland Security appropriations bill that is set for a Senate vote on Thursday, alongside a package of five other bills that will fund much of the federal government through the end of the…
Are you fucking kidding me:
While a growing number of House Dems sign onto a new impeachment resolution targeting DHS Secretary Kristi Noem, the White House announced today that it plans to send border czar Tom Homan to Minnesota to, essentially, help clean up Noem and Greg Bovino’s mess there.
So is Homan going to shakedown the state for money to withdraw the masked brownshirts?
I mean seriously, what mess is Tom Homan capable of cleaning up other than money dropped by a bank robber?
This is as lame a public relation stunt as I have ever heard or seen. If the media or "centrist Democrats "buys Homan as a “moderate”, while I guess that’s how we got here.
If Democrats fail on this, it’ll be the greatest betrayal this nation has yet experienced.
This is a bit of political no-brainer, of course the Senate Democrats should start making some demands for their votes. It is called democracy to do so. They should represent their constituents.
Now, that out of the way, Republicans are still a fascists party. That has not gone away. They may have found it inconvenient with the killing of Alex Pretti. But I do not expect them to rethink anything except how they can politically get themselves out the bind of being exposed without even a transparent fig leaf of propaganda to constantly belch out.
It was always going to come to this point. They cannot be fascist without going around and killing some people. It is necessary to instill fear and to instill fear some of it had to be very public. But, the other problem they have is that there no other positives really. It is not like the economy is great. So the propaganda spin has to be really on point, and the only point the video shows is murder. Their propaganda will not distract on this one; they have no hook on which it will hang.
And, either the fear works or it doesn’t. It hasn’t, at least not any near where they need it. Alex Pretti being out there trying to help people proves it.
OT: today Mrschjim & I drove past a local high school at about lunchtime. Hundreds of students lined 2 streets at an intersection. They carried placards opposing I.C.E. People like ourselves were slowing down, honking, cheering those kids. Made my old heart proud of those youngsters and their teachers! Maybe there is hope!
Stand tall, Dems, and do whatever you have to do to vote down the ICE funding. If the republicans want to hold other agencies hostage, that’s on them.
I agree that we should not fail. I find your position, however, to be hyperbolic. We shouldn’t blame the Democrats for what Republicans are doing. It amounts to going after the easy target. It is something weak people do.
Naw, that’s way too simple. Lots of Republicans got into the game for the purpose of getting lower taxes, keeping that hippy stuff out of the schools, making some money on the Wingnut Welfare circuit, having power and prestige back home. You know, relatively innocent albeit venal and somewhat crass stuff.
These are the folks who can turn – and can be turned – against your “fascist” violence. These are people who can aid in the restoration of the Republican Party (if it can be restored) back to its former glory as selfish money grubbers and blue noses.
My daughter organized a protest at her school (newspaper article about her here)
The kids are doing this themselves. I didn’t help, or encourage her. She just saw another school did it, so she did it, and worked with other schools in the district as well so they could maximize their impact.
Hats off and a loud applause to those high school kids.
On the other hand speaker of the house tried the same play in sending reps home for a week trying to force the senate to just vote yes on the minibus that has to be passed before Friday.
If the gop doesn’t separate the bills, the plan is to blame the dem for the shut down. I see through it but many didn’t. It is a shame.
Sepp Blatter suggests fans should not travel to US for World Cup
That is nothing but wise advise. Ticket prices are stratospheric, huge distance between venues, and the risk of getting killed when you encounter the ICEholes after drinking a few beers.
Pulling Bovino out of Minnesota while deploying ICE and CBP thugs to Maine to brutalize communities in exactly the same way isn’t a de-escalation. Trump is stuck between an American public that doesn’t want this lawless brutality and the loathsome MAGA influencers who are demanding the genocide they were promised.
@mondfledermaus I’m pretty sure Blatter is only saying that because of his own personal grudges with the current leadership of FIFA, but if it saves international fans from getting detained, beaten, or killed I’ll take it.
to take a stand against ICE
It just occurred to me that we’re having to deal with cellphone cameras of these events, while somebody who is sneaking bombs near the Party’s headquarters gets photographed ten ways to Sunday.
I understand from tv dramas that somebody has to wake up the judge in the middle of the night to get a warrant for a store video. Is there any legal reason stores with cameras can’t (you know) just post their videos of crimes on their own?
They’d get a ton of clicks : - )
Homan in Minneapolis is not national news. However, I would expect Minnesota media to have some daggers ready.
Wish the stunt luck ; - )
You only get 2 senators, and sometimes they’re both Ds. That’s not going after an easy target, that’s expressing your concerns as a constituent and your only outlet. Endorsement and enabling comes with a share of the blame.
It’s going to come down to fascism or the filibuster and there’s nothing weak about holding them accountable for their priorities
Sure, but that was the old Republican party. Some GOP politicians might still wrap that around themselves to feel comforted at night. But under Donald Trump, they gave all that up when it became a cult, and most of the GOP politicians embraced it. Fascism is just too easy with all the social media platforms available. It has become their default position. And those that would turn, they got thrown out of the party for the most part.
That’s becoming Big Mike’s go-to move, isn’t it? Lots of extra vay-cay! Same pay and perqs! First Felon (Twice Impeached) loves it! Taking the hard line and holding it – the easy way!
So what if the country burns?
