Wisconsin is not a republican state. Gerrymandering, voter suppression and millions of Koch dollars give it the appearance of one. More people voting can fix this.
Dems have never been very good at message control and branding because unlike the R’s they are not a monolithic group…
That and the fact for the past 75 years, it has been easier to paint the Dems as being akin to Communists (the big bad enemy) while the vast majority of Americans are oblivious to what Fascism really is. And once you combine that with Godwin’s Law…
As many of you have seen, the Wisconsin Supreme Court has ruled the Spring Election will take place as scheduled today. No one should have to choose between their health and participating in democracy. With that in mind, I’m sharing the latest from the Wisconsin Elections Commission:
Mailed Absentee Ballots must be postmarked by April 7th (today) and received by 4 PM on April 13th.
Hand Delivered Ballots or ballots without postmark must be returned to the polling place by 8 PM today to be counted.
If you do decide to vote in person today, please take precautions, maintain 6 feet of distance from others, bring your own pen and wear a mask if possible.
And this from the State DHS Acting Secretary:
#DHSWI Secretary-designee Andrea Palm updates how much #PPE from the federal stockpile - respirators, masks, face shields, and gloves - has been distributed in Wisconsin. And she talks about what’s coming in from the buyback program Governor Tony Evers launched last month. See how you can donate to help build a #ResilientWisconsin: https://covid19supplies.wi.gov/Donations
Bottom line is, the executive branch of the government is absolutely slamming the GOP for its inaction. The commentary on these two threads is absolutely livid about the GOP’s stupidity here. And I’ve got folks on the local SM thread saying we’re going to vote out every Republican.
The GOP has missed the boat on this one. I’ll be interested to see what the outcome is - will everyone be pissed off enough to take this on?
You make it sound like it’s people’s fault, that if they just made a little more effort, everything would be fine.
All of the anti-voting measures are in place for a reason-- because they work.
Putting all the onus on the individual to overcome all of the obstacles is the totally wrong way to look at it. Almost like saying, “If they just saved up money for the poll tax, voters would be fine, so it’s their own fault”
NOW would be a good time for Sanders to drop out eliminate one more opportunity for republicans to exercise their ratfuckery.
No, actually, he’s about a month late. WTF?
If one doesn’t want to be disenfranchised, it’s all we’ve got. The governor asked those who wanted an absentee ballot to request by last Friday 5p. Those folks won’t even get that ballot until today. There’s supposed to be an extension for mailed in ballots, but it’s only a matter of time before the courts overturn that too.
One of the comments I saw on the DHS site here in Wisconsin was that the head of that agency might’ve closed the polls as a public health issue, but it’s too late for that now. At this writing, the polls have been open for several hours and closing them now would just be too disruptive to the process. I just don’t see it happening.
So basically they’re ok with people dying so long as it’s not them and it’s mostly Dems. Could they possibly be more obvious about this? They’ve just taken election theft to a whole new level, literally seeing to murder Dem voters so they can hold on to their rump minority power.
Oh, I’m just questioning the point of showing up on election day, in person, to cast an absentee ballot. Doesn’t make sense, unless I’m missing something. You’re already at the polling place then.
What they don’t realize is that, as red as this State is, they’re putting their own electorate at risk, too.
Of course, with the GOP presidential primary only allowing voters to vote Trump, maybe some GOP won’t leave their homes because why bother? That bodes well for the SC judge going blue and the gerrymandering referendum passing by a wide margin.
I’m absentee for the entire year because of my travel schedule. Hubby will vote on the way home, but he saw the polling place sign on his way to work this morning.
Exactly. If a first-term Dem was president and it was the GOP primary that really mattered, I’m 100% sure they’d have allowed extended absentee voting. They’re gaming their rulings in favor of Repubs and their rich donors. PERIOD. Roberts is finally taking whatever flimsy mask he had on off. He is the GOP’s top fixer, and that was literally why he was put there and why the 2000 election was stolen.
