Sen. Kelly Loeffler (R-GA) said Wednesday that she was “not familiar” with a widely-cited Access Hollywood tape where President Donald Trump can be heard talking about sexually assaulting women.
The women I admire are the ones that tell you that this behavior is a BAD thing no matter who does it and doesn’t hide behind a ‘I don’t know what you’re talking about’ bunch of BS. Blackburn, Loeffler, have done everything to grab onto Donnie’s coattails.
This needs to be asked of Loeffler every time she’s seen in public: How could you not know this about the man you support to be president? Are you lying, or are you stupid?
Ask until she answers.
A Trumpista approach to public statements is becoming the norm. Most politicians or their publicists, when making a statement, are trying to persuade people of something: their view, their virtue, whatever.
But Trumpista statements, across the board as far as I can see, have completely given up on trying to convince anyone of anything. Rather, they fall into two categories:
Ritual statements of debasement of enemies: anyone who says anything critical is “lying”, “incompetent”, “disgruntled”… the script is almost entirely standardized by now (see the White House statements on Miles Taylor for the full liturgy).
Bald-faced denials of the obvious. Loeffler’s weird lie here falls into this category: any sentient political actor can’t possibly be ‘not familiar’ with the Access Hollywood tape. David Perdue’s denial that he mocked Senator Harris’s name is manifestly false, absurdly so. In fact, these absurd lies seem be built on the premise that the absurdity is part of their appeal.
Both of these rhetorical styles, in short, are ritual language for believers, not persuasive language to change anyone’s mind. The liturgy – and what is more liturgical than a Trump rally? – serves to command the minds of true believers in their Leader. The lies serve to provide an insider’s nudge and wink which provides a little goose of satisfaction, … “we got them annoyed, now rub it in”… to those same true believers.
Trumpism has fully evolved into a cult, I conclude.
She probably hasn’t read about or seen any recordings of any of the other disqualifying actions he’s taken or statements he’s made either, but she is totally informed on all of the decisions she needs to make as a Senator.
When asked directly about the tape on Wednesday, Loeffler deliberately ignored the question, deciding instead to taut the President for a series of unspecific accomplishments like “being a conservative champion for Georgians.”
Hollow, meaningless words from a hollow meaningless person.
The phrase you are looking for is “Grab 'em by the pussy.” It seems kind of relevant in an article about how this numbskull is denying knowledge of it.
