Livid Trump Throws A Fit Over Jan. 6 Panel’s Sweeping Document Request | Talking Points Memo

Yes, Indian foreign direct investment in Afghanistan took off in 2011, peaking in 2018. Amazing how quickly FDI inflows can become stranded assets.

I hear you…but

  1. Trump does not care if he actually has “standing” … he is just interested in the creation of time consuming obstacles …he desires that “stay” pending resolution of ongoing litigation.
  2. He has an ample war chest that he grifted with the “stop the steal / fund the recount” scam that gave him 80 cents of ever dollar - unencumbered by any rules.
  3. if Trump wins - he blocks evidence that might incriminate / implicate him … if he loses and there is damning evidence of gross criminal activity … he & his extended “empire” will crumble.

Said Moulton and Meijer.
I’d rather not considering their stunt was purely for air time and the increase of their fame.

Perhaps it’s just a coverup of a romantic getaway for the two.

From the day Trump was sworn in I thought that I would get tired of this,

but I haven’t. So I guess I too am an awful human being.

My guess is that the Pashtun jihadis will turn their attention to Pakistan.

Well, part of a malignant narcissist’s/sociopath’s MO is to keep pushing boundaries and breaking norms. Then when they go too far, they expect someone else to defend them and cover up the mess. I think it’s all one big ball of aggression and arrogance.

Ezra Klein has a very good piece today about blaming Biden, hysteria around evac, etc. I think the Times received a LOT of blowback on their “let’s all piss on the president,” tone over the past week.

The WaPo ran an editorial yesterday that opened with “The Biden administration, having made inadequate preparations to evacuate U.S. allies in Afghanistan, now has what may be a fleeting chance to mitigate its missteps. After months of foot-dragging and pandemic-plagued inefficiency, it can hasten the resettlement of vetted, deserving Afghans in this country.” The Editorial Board took a serious pounding in the comments.

Oh, I think it’s quite clear that RepubliQans do read Orwell: They think 1984 is a manual, not a warning.

South Dakota Attorney General Jason Ravnsborg, who is accused of fatally striking a pedestrian with his car on a highway and abandoning the body last September, will take a plea deal instead of going to trial today.

As I understand it, not only is this man not going to jail for killing a man, he’s not even stepping down from his position as AG. As much as I despise Ken Paxton, at least he hasn’t killed anyone. As far as I know, that is.

Moulton did say something interesting in that NYT interview:

Mr. Meijer: It is utterly bizarre and baffling that we’re in this position. To go from having the Taliban as an adversary we’re seeking to kill, to relying upon them for security, coordinating to make sure things run smoothly. It’s a complicated situation that’s impossible to understand if you’re not on the ground and yet critical to saving the lives of tens of thousands.

There are tireless diplomatic officials there who have been working around the clock to clear backlogs, to work on the permissions needed to land in order to make sure all of this goes smoothly.

Mr. Moulton: In fact, one of the critical things we learned from our visit is that the task force prioritizing all the [special immigrant visa] applicants is overwhelmed by requests from members of Congress. That’s never been communicated to us, but that is something that we are now communicating to our colleagues.

Why are members of Congress involved in this? Who are they specifically trying to get out?
