Live Blog: Trump’s Second Impeachment Trial Begins | Talking Points Memo

Former President Donald Trump’s second impeachment trial kicks off on Tuesday afternoon, with House managers and his defense team presenting arguments on whether he can face conviction for his role stirring up the Jan. 6 Capitol mob after leaving office. Republicans have coalesced around the idea — disputed by many constitutional scholars — that a former president cannot be impeached.

R’s have shown their hand for weeks now.

They’re scared to DEATH over the entire insurrection being replayed to the American voters.

Let them rot in the filth in which they are complicit.

I hope the rest of the citizens of this country can count on our judicial system to function for them without testimony from witnesses and without other evidence, and just go by the mood of the jury (before it hears about the particular case) and public opinion. What a joke.

They’re scared to death about losing their “jobs” and having Orange Mussolini’s minions threatening them.

Yep, they’re scared of one more than the other, and so an acquittal is nearly certain.

Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene: … “If the #Jan6 organizers were Trump supporters, then why did they attack us while we were objecting to electoral college votes for Joe Biden?” she tweeted. “The attack RUINED our objection…”

Uh, possibly ‘cause Donnie didn’t expect that to work and, so, placed his bet on bringing extraordinary pressure to bear on Congress.
ETA: It’s not like he wasn’t always into extortion or something.
I presume she doesn’t get that for the same reason she subscribes to, and disseminates, conspiracy theories.
If nothing else, her words validate the Democrats’ decision to strip her of committee assignments.

Sure is. I guess all the MAGA hats were antifa cosplay. And all the pro-Dump tweets. And the migration from the Dump speech to the Capitol.

Sorry, but this joke is on us, Democrats. The notion of a real trial without witness testimony and other evidence is laughable. It was wrong last time, which Democrats pointed out, and it’s wrong now. The only difference today is that the lack of evidence, coming when Dems have the power to do the trial properly, make Dems. the party of hypocrisy. Whether Dems. do our duty to the Constitution should never depend on Republicons doing theirs (we know the outcome there as well). Dems. should call witnesses, especially those who have spoken out about why they stormed the Capitol, make their historical record, let Republicons make their record, and let history be the ultimate judge. That is the right thing to do.

“If the #Jan6 organizers were Trump supporters, then why did they attack us while we were objecting to electoral college votes for Joe Biden?” she tweeted. “The attack RUINED our objection that we spent weeks preparing for, which devastated our efforts on behalf of Trump and his voters.”

Well, they did it because Trump told them, and nobody ever accused Trump or his cultists of being smart.

MTG caught onto Pelosi’s game. Totally neutered the opposition by having AntiFa raid the place while masquerading as MAGA Patriots.

And it worked. Only one objection after the raid, which was quickly disposed of.

It really reminds me of Hillary’s work with that ‘Ukrainian’ server and filling in the basement of Comet Ping Pong and Pizza.
Can we be sure that, on close inspection, her role won’t be revealed?

It’s planned for Saturday. That’s why Trump’s lawyer wants to skip that day, because he doesn’t want to end up like the last lawyer who crossed the Clintons.

They would have been wearing Trump merchandise.
