Limbaugh’s Home County Defies DeSantis, Won’t Lower Flag In Shock Jock’s Honor | Talking Points Memo

It is more obvious all the time that no one need ask Ron DeSantis whether or not he has any shame.

We didn’t lose as many connections during the Trump years as some other people that we know, primarily because those connections became more distant years earlier due to Rush Limbaugh. He was responsible for distancing from both family and friends. Flying a flag at half staff should be reserved for someone one served his or her country. Rush established a world view that said that being abusive towards those who have a different opinion is not only acceptable but is also honorable and even holy. His words and actions actually harmed people and broke families apart. He deserves no honors.

Maybe they can lower the flag at the quickstop where he’d send his servants to score his vicodin.

TPM seems to get these things wrong too often. The people of Florida are not the “subjects” of DeSantis, which @bankerpup noted above. DeSantis is not a King. This is a very basic concept of citizenship that Matt Shuham and TPM should know without any coaching. In fact, I’m surprised it was even considered in that sentence at all, given the point of the article – namely, that the county bucked the governor’s demand, an action taken by citizens, not subjects.

Besides, DeSantis can only order the lowering of the Florida state flag—not the US flag.

This deflated rather quickly. Didn’t DeSantis’ initial stance dictate flags statewide? Then the official proclamation specified three buildings, now it’s just the capitol. And the capitol being the lone half-mast now makes it a symbol of shame for DeSantis rather than a symbol of honor for that blowhard radio twat.

I was wondering about that.

Is this actually legal of DeSantis? From what I’ve read the President has the ability to lower the U.S. flag for luminaries, but state governors may only lower the federal flag for a specific set of people including former government officials and members of the armed forces.

Wait until DeSantis counters by ordering Florida counties to burn a cross on black families lawns.
