COVID-19 is short for Coronavirus Disease 2019. Rest assured, Rush, that it as named after the year and not after 2018 previous Coronavirus diseases.
The virus itself is Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus 2 (or SARS-CoV-2). So, the virus is the Nth of its type, where N is 2. And the first SARS was a legitimately big thing in 2002 and 2003.
A responsible person with a media empire like Limbaugh might note that while some coronaviruses are not that dangerous (some are responsible for a decent fraction of common colds), that does not mean that none of them are dangerous.

It’s good thing Trump came out of the gate with “it’s just the flu, bro” instead of “immigrants are trying to kill Americans with plague,” (and the right seems to be stuck with it despite adding “Chinese” before “Coronavirus” at every opportunity).
The latter would have been just as ineffective in fighting the pandemic but far uglier.

This sort of misinformation costs lives. Unless people take the disease seriously, taking precautions and practicing social distancing, the spread in the US will be much worse than anywhere else in the world. And this sort of deliberately misleading and minimizing garbage insures that the FoxNews communities will harbor the virus even while better-informed places take proper measures.

Unfortunately, in the meantime they will infect countless others who otherwise may not have been. It’s the same as with the anti-vaxxers, good riddance to them but they also enable outbreaks which endanger innocent people. I would like to see assholes like Limbaugh publicly challenged to infect themselves with the virus and prove how harmless it is. And if they won’t, shamed for being the lying cowards that they are. You know when the camera is off this fat bastard is probably marinating himself in Purell.
