Michelle Bachman was a member of the intelligence committee which was frankly bizarre.
It was on purpose and their M.O. They put the guy who apologized to BP for Obama being “mean” to them about their Gulf oil spill in charge of the Energy Committee and a guy who read the Bible into the congressional record as proof against climate change in charge of the Environmental Subcommittee. They want nothing more than a 100% dysfunctional federal gov’t other than the process of appointing their judges.
It is like a classic match up. Like the Mongoose vs. the Guinea Pig. Okay, not where I was going but it works better. Nunes definitely has a pissed off Guinea Pig look. You know the one that is never adopted at the pet store because he scare the kids. Left to live his life out in a land of cedar chips and missed opportunity.

As a Minnesotan, I cannot tell you how mortified I am by the fact that we not only let her out of the asylum but gave her real power.
I’ll grant that the result was similarly self-contradictory, but I think the explanation is different. In the opening years of the 21st century, the GOP was still only experimenting with the truly insane – and who can blame them for conducting a limited trial before embracing patent lunacy? Back then, we didn’t have the facts to support the hypothesis that Fox could singlehandedly legitimize a batshit-crazy politician. (I think we all knew they were willing, but we didn’t know it could succeed.)
Today the oligarchy can choose from a veritable basketful of blathering fuckwits, the certifiably insane, compulsive liars, and criminals eager to escape the law. Unsurprisingly, they tend to select folks who are ideologically opposed to any form of regulation, without considering the particulars of that individual’s rottenness.
