Life Inside the Undocumented Underground

Originally published at: Life Inside the Undocumented Underground - TPM – Talking Points Memo

During President Donald Trump’s second term, dramatic raids staged by the Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency have become a part of life. We want to show you what that looks like up close and on the ground in one American city. It’s a story of fear, resilience, and resistance.  TPM has spent the past two…

i remember the underground from the 60s and 70-s,quite a few passed thro’ KY where i was living, at the time

two thirds of the over 120,000 people deported from the U.S. had no criminal convictions at all.

So, the people who are left are… the worst of the worst. Trump is really engaged in a recruitment drive, leaving the “best of the worst” here to do his bidding.

CATegorically the “worst of the worst”, clearly involved in some kind of felineous activity.
Seriously, all the best New Year’s wishes for the resistance’s increased effectiveness and activities being conducted (sorry, can’t help myself) underground. Hopefully, this TPM series will encourage more of the same as, unfortunately, it continues to be more and more necessary. Still waiting for Congress as a whole to get a clue.

If the press is invited, no negotiation will occur; Zelenskyy will simply be presented with Putin’s offer (which probably has not changed since Day1), and then chastised for not being sufficiently thankful and obsequious.

We found deep fear, but also something less expected.
… there is something of a modern underground railroad [/quote]

Thanks for this kind of reporting: when a government is suborned by evildoers, resistance needs to be multiple and multiply; learning about it helps with the latter (also serves to ameliorate despair).

Trump talked with Putin just an hour before the meeting. At this point, however, it just looks like a high-pressure time-share sales event. Ukraine has not gotten much support from the US since Trump returned to office, and China is not particularly hot on ending the conflict, because there are some much more serious territorial concessions in Russia’s Far East that matter to China. Much better that Russia remains locked in its imperial fantasies. Ukraine has gone in with a pretty nifty proposal that Russia provide an equal-sized occupied territorial concession to create a demilitarized area. Putin will nix it, of course.

Also, what’s with Trump’s hands today? Both have make-up.
