The Las Vegas shooting in 2017, which left 61 people dead and roughly 500 wounded, provoked horror even from a country inured to constant gun violence and prompted then-President Donald Trump to call for the banning of the machinery used.
For those that have never fired automatic ( cyclic ) fire…it aint like it is in the movies. It’s erratic, difficult to control and a sure way not to hit shit. Cyclic fire is for fire suppression…to stop the other guy from shooting at you. Bump stocks are even worse as you have a weapon firing at a fast semi automatic pace but bouncing all over. It has no place in civilian life.
Unless you’re shooting in the general direction of hundreds screaming people running for their lives. You may have no prayer at hitting what you intend to hit, but you’re still going to turn a lot of random people’s insides into shredded cheese.
We note with interest that the phrase “well-regulated militia” failed (AGAIN!) to show up in this discussion of amendments, rights, and privileges regarding guns in America.
Where is the WRM ??? If I want to join, where do I go for the uniform, jaunty cap, song list, free weapons, and training camp schedule?
Could Uncle Thomas be a mite bit scared of what’s coming if he keeps “voting his conscience” on other issues? Because we could arrive at a point where even deadlier mass violence is a response to their decisions’ consequences.
Nah, who am I kidding, he doesn’t vote with his conscience, he votes and judges with his amygdala.
Although a strong supporter of the 2nd Amendment, In my opinion the court acted with common sense, as there can be no reasonable rationale as to why someone needs a “bump stock.”
My experience in SE Asia was that that was the point. You aimed at where you thought or knew enemy troops were and you just let loose. You were bound to hit a few targets. I was the driver for the battery commander so never had the terrifying experience of actually firing one (other than as a drill), but I moved them around and saw their lethal consequences. Lethality is the whole point.
Yea it isn’t like they own it because it is cool, or bad, or because it is controversial, and they are not aware of what is happening with gun ownership, and read or watch every news account on how government wants to take away their weapons!
If the SCOTUS takes away their right to own this device, they will be aware, and join all the protests.
SE Asia would likely be Vietnam where I was. I rarely used auto there. It didn’t achieve much but located me by the sustained muzzle flash. Back off an ambush …it was useful. The only place I often used automatic fire was on the door gun of a helicopter…which was for suppression.
I was with ground forces moving into Cambodia in 1970. They definitely used automatic weapons in some of the drives against the communists to stop “the dominoes” from falling.
Machine guns suck for deer hunting for a couple reasons.
First…too many bullets
Second…the .223 is designed to expand in what it hits …shredding tissue from the inside. It makes the deer meat useless.
There is no reason for a civilian to have a weapon like an AR-15 or an AK-47. A shotgun in close quarters is more than effective. A pistol works quite well as well.
