I doubt the electorate has evolved enough to think “third time’s the charm” for putting up a female candidate for President, so I doubt she’d make it through the primary.
But that isn’t the point for many who toss their hat in the ring. For some, it’s to boost media exposure to promote their ideas, or as an audition for VP selection. Which may be what she’s going for.

Going into an important weekend for Canada/US tariff ‘negotiations’, I was reminded this week of an ‘anecdote’ that arose shortly after Trump’s economic war on Canada began: the abandonment by Stellantis (the big three automaker formerly known as Chrysler) of an auto plant in Brampton, ON that was being refitted to manufacture the Jeep Compass. The plant was in the early stages of the shutdown and retrofit, so it was an obvious decision to move production to a plant in Illinois that makes similar vehicles and avoid the trauma of whatever Trump plans to do next.
Roughly 3,000 workers at the Brampton plant have been without work since February, 2025, when the automaker paused production as a result of U.S. President Donald Trump’s tariffs. The plant had been idled in 2023 to retool for the production of electric vehicles, but not all workers were temporarily laid off at that time. Then in October, 2025, Stellantis announced it would move production of its Jeep Compass in Brampton, to Illinois, as part of a plan to boost U.S. output by 50 per cent over four years. Since then, Unifor had been trying to work with Stellantis to understand what the future of the Brampton plant was, and whether the automaker planned to shut it down altogether.
Stellantis received a $529-million grant from the federal government in 2022 to retool its operations at its Brampton and Windsor assembly plants, contingent upon keeping production at both facilities. Ottawa served Stellantis with a notice of default in December, 2025, two months after the company announced it would move production of the Jeep Compass from Brampton to Illinois.

That plant employed 3000 people, 3000 highly skilled auto workers. Those employees have families, they live in neighbourhoods, they shop at local businesses. They are unionized, so if and when they do find employment elsewhere in the Ontario auto industry, they will have lost all seniority. A manufacturing plant can be moved to avoid tariffs; not easily, but it can be moved. The skilled workforce cannot.
These people are my neighbours. The image of the damage that Trump does with his uninformed, capricious, arbitrary, wanton, on-again-off-again tariff warfare is etched in my brain.

I’m not sure how independents feel about her, but Republicans I know think she is stupid. Not that they’d vote for her anyway. I’d like to see polls that tell us something about what Democrats and Independents feel about her.

It depends. If she has the left lane to herself, and someone like Newsom consolidates the establishment side, we could see an '08 play out again.
I also think you cant compare '16 and '24 to '28
2016: coming off 8 years of a Party holding the WH is almost a sure loss. US has major ADHD. HRC, having served in that Administration, took on the role usually held by the outgoing VP. There was nothing new or fresh. Nevermind 30 years of propoganda against her and her massive tin ear.
2024: again we had basically an extension of the current administration. This time only 4 years, but Joe was unpopular from the Afghanistan withdrawal though Gaza. And Harris was unable to articulate how she’d be different. Then we had Joe fall on his face in the debate… changing horses midstream is a dodgy ptoposition, Harris wasn’t chosen and was without her own loyal followers from a primary.
A man would have lost both those races due to the underlying conditions noted.
Now… will democratic primary voters be gun-shy on elevating a woman?
Maybe.
I think AOC doesnt fit this as she has plenty of media exposure.
She’d never want nor consider a VP slot. It’s a political dead end and she’s nade clear she wants to lead change.
Ultimately, i think she makes the safer play and shoots for Senate. I think the establishment pushes on Chuck not to run making it seem the better path for her.

“what too few establishment Republicans are willing to say: life begins at conception and abortion is murder.”
Not having a necessary abortion is therefore a crime against humanity.
