His elocution of “Bond,…James Bond” was truly one of a kind!

Jeez, it’s been a rough year.

Pity they didn’t mention his stellar roles in Darby O’Gill and the Little People and Zardoz.

Everybody’s got to start somewhere.

Ninety years old, knighted by the Queen and will forever be a cultural icon. He had his flaws, but I say he ran his race well.

Speaking of elocution, he said this in 1965:

“I don’t think there is anything particularly wrong in hitting a woman, though I don’t recommend you do it the same way that you hit a man.”

I admired other things about him, including his Scottish nationalism, but not the way he treated (some) women.

The Bond novels (and many of the movies) were sexist and also racist – but I wouldn’t blame any of the actors for this.

An icon, certainly. A man of his times. Not a Bond fan myself, but I enjoyed his other work…Red October in particular. RIP, Sir Connery.

Plenty of actors around, and quite a few you’d call “screen personalities,” but not so many real movie stars any more. Sean Connery was a movie star.

What a guy…plenty of flaws, plenty of joy, plenty of talent. I enjoyed the heck out of him…90 years old. He did well. RIP Sir.

Connery was not a “method actor.” He was a star.

RIP Mr. Bond.

Can’t really disagree.

Lord knows there were a couple of lousy ones.

The new guy – is it Daniel something? – seems quite good.

He even beat Teebek to the grave.

Connery had star power and did good work in some memorable parts and movies.

In his honor, for the next week, I’ll be stopping my microwave when the timer gets to 0:07.

Actually he stole this from another candidate for the Bond role, Patrick McGoohan, who intoned “Drake… John Drake” in Danger Man, the precursor to Secret Agent, several years before Dr No.

It’s funny how many folks hit the Bond angle when the man hated the type cast and wanted it out of his life. He did it for the money. He loathed martinis ( was a beer man ) and didn’t give a shit about HMSS…he was a hardcore Scottish Independence guy. Showed up in a kilt to be honored by the Queen.

All James Bonds are compared, usually unfavorably, to Sean Connery. But his filmography is really remarkable, and it’s hard to say anything in particular was his best film. RIP, Sir.
