Let’s set aside the question of whether the death threat was serious. I don’t think it matters. The problem here is precisely the profound unseriousness of Donald Trump and his supporters. They don’t think they live in a world where real things happen, where bad actions cause pain and suffering, where it matters at all what you say beyond getting you what you want. They’re emotionally infantile and don’t see that there’s a world outside of them where what you do has consequences for people who have rights as well as you. They’re unserious. I think it’s the worst thing about them.
