Leaked SCOTUS Draft Striking Down Roe Sets Off Firestorm

Get ready for an underwhelming response.

I’m predicting a bit more engagement, but not what we’ve been told would appear. Of course we’ll have to subtract from that a fully engaged anti-choice electorate who have a tendency to show up on election day regardless.

I guess you probably don’t need to feel bad or surprised. If you have children or grandchildren, especially females, you might start feeling bad when they are effected by this.

… calling the decision in a joint statement an “an abomination, one of the worst and most damaging decisions in modern history” at the hands of conservative Justices who “have lied to the U.S. Senate, ripped up the Constitution and defiled both precedent and the Supreme Court’s reputation.”

I would still argue the did court did that with Bush v Gore. The major difference here is that now the court has issued what amounts to fighting words to 70% percent of the population. And with any luck, Rethugliklans will pay for it beginning at the midterms.

In other news, Susan Collins’ concern level has reached perturbed.

I have a forty year unblemished record of voting in every election, local, state and federal and have supported pro-choice candidates in every one.

I’ll submit that my empathy and efforts for the cause have never been lacking. Protests and marches do jack shit, only voting matters and these demons could never succeed without the continued support of tens of millions of women as well as anti-choice men.

I think it has gotten to the point where, if you don’t get out and do something, it doesn’t matter what it is, America might as well just curl up in bed and wither. All the while, the rest of the western industrial countries will be moving forward.

There is no choice!

Birth control will be next. How engaged will women be if they realize that?

Protesters were outside of SCOTUS almost immediately. Westlake Park in Seattle will be packed tonight with pro choice protesters.
I think, perhaps, a Y chromosome might be informing your opinion.

We’ll soon find out, but what do the numbers we have over the last twenty years seem to indicate?

No, it won’t.

Right on time now that the horses have fled the barn!

Do you think Clarence Thomas will change his mind now?

As I previously said, Obergefell, Lawrence and Griswold are soon to be facing an onslaught of attacks at the state level. One by one they’re going down, if not nationally then at those state levels. Then, finally, SCOTUS will do as they’ve done with Roe, and strike them down.

Sorry if I no longer think anything is safe. It’s a great motivator.

I couldn’t find a link to the original article when I searched for it a couple of years ago, but sometime during the GWB administration I read a great opinion article. The writer said that when conservatives say something that isn’t true, they don’t feel that they are lying because they are speaking on behalf of a larger (‘meta-level’) argument or principle that is most certainly true. The conservative Supreme Court judges believe that Roe is evil, and therefore, if they had to lie about their true beliefs to be seated on the court in order to strike it down, so be it. I am certain they all believe that they are just, moral people doing ‘God’s work’.

“This is your stolen court, LBGT rights and Contraception are next”

Fade out…

I totally disagree. Mass movements of people and their voices make change. We have seen it in the past.

I’ve said my lot on this issue. I’m a Canadian with a POV. that is a little different.

Like the dog that finally caught the car… I’m not convinced that the GQP is really going to love the results of this… I mean, even if this leak isn’t real… the threat might be enough to get normally unmotivated Democratic voters out to the polls come November.

The proposed GQP campaign slogan, “Make Woman Property Again”, has done poorly with many younger focus groups.

Alito says that abortion has only been outlawed in the second half of the 20th century. Hasn’t that been about the same time that mainstream surgical procedures and anesthesia has been relatively safe?

Sure, they fixed broken legs and did some surgeries earlier, but they were pretty rudimentary and elective surgery really wasn’t a thing.

Just one little nugget of horseshit from the pile of manure they call a decision.

Correct, probably LBGTQ rights are next…
