The passing of Representative John Lewis (D-GA) on Friday has been met with a vivid stream of remembrances for the icon of civil rights whose unyielding pursuit of racial justice and equality left an indelible mark on the Congress — and the nation — that he leaves behind.
“I will never forget joining hands with John as members of Congress sand We Shall Overcome at a 2008 ceremony honoring his friend Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.,” Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) wrote of Lewis in a tweeted statement
McConnell thinks we are stupid enough to think that he remembers this fondly!.. PLEASE, he remembers it sure, but this pandering is total bullshit
Many years ago sitting and talking with my mother in law(And may she now rest in PEACE) we were watching a funeral and she casually said to me after seeing all the flowers and people at that funeral. She said show it to me while I’m alive don’t wait until I die to do this type of thing. Well I can say in Congressmen
Lewis case he did see his while he was alive,Rest In Peace Congressmen.
I disagree, he was the last of certain group that made great change, but Lewis also became the teacher for change for the next generation, and the one after that.
If you haven’t seen it…John Lewis on David Letterman (Netflix). Love seeing President Obama’s statements. Always a class act. JL an amazing man, with such an inspirational life.
Same here, but we’ll probably see a Tweet written by a staffer with some lame platitudes soon. I predict the Tweet will be indistinguishable from praise of a generic white politician, with no mention at all of race.
Trump is incapable saying anything heart felt about the passing of John Lewis. He does not have the moral conviction, strength of character, compassion nor humility to say a word about Rep. Lewis. Because Trump always makes everything about himself, I don’t want to hear from Donald J. Trump today. Let him golf.
I would be remiss if I didn’t mention the other civil rights Icon who just passed also.
“ATLANTA (AP) — The Rev. C.T. Vivian, an early and key adviser to the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. who organized pivotal civil rights campaigns and spent decades advocating for justice and equality, died Friday at the age of 95.”
May you Rest In Peace Sir,you work is done here, and Thank You.
