My peers in my profession commonly work into their late 70s. Even early 80s. I have lost track of all those I’ve known that finally called it quits for good, and within 6 months were dead. 75 year old guys that walked out the door as fit as a person can be at that age. Fully sentient, high functioning, productive, no major health issues. Then they drop dead, usually in less than a year. Not sure if there’s some sort of correlation there, but I’m keeping my hands in the game as long as I’m upright and thinking clearly.
I had a colleague with family ties to Brazil, and I dialed her up every time there was another goal. It was marvelous. And she’s still a good friend too.
She’ll never win reelection as an independent because Republicans will have their own preferred candidate. All she could do is be a spoiler for the Dem in the race, and she has to know this. She’s not stupid, just a raging narcissist. Why waste time and money on a campaign she’ll never win? So I predict she announces her retirement in 2024 and gets a seat on the board of some Big Pharma company after leaving office. This means a Dem can still win that seat.
Yep. Sinema’s made no secret of the fact that she no longer supports the positions she once did, and that she’ll swing with whoever pays the most. The explosive growth of her net worth since taking office shows that this tactic works.
Outside of the fact the Neptune Society periodically snows me with junk mail, they have an odd take on death. And not a happy one as they seem to want to project.
For myself, dying, if of an old age should not be something dark. So settling the issues ahead of time and making the unknowns known can be liberating. It is a process if looked at in the right light that can be healthy. (Not a dismissive all people die sort of way, just understanding how a person enters and exits a life. The tragedies are a life cut short and the milestones not met. )
Al Gore didn’t really have the political skills he needed and I remember his campaign well. Clinton could have really helped him out but Gore stayed away from him and that was a dumb mistake, but Joe Leiberman was an even dumber mistake.
