One week ago, Kyiv was largely like any big capital city: full of foreigners, with lively bars, restaurants, and people traveling in and about.
âNeighborhood people gave us all thisâold washing machines, tires, roofing, anything they could throw out of their windowsâto create this barricade,â one Kyivan told the Wall Street Journal. âWe will resist.â
Sheer bravery on their part.
Updates from The Guardian.
Finland will provide weapons and ammunition to Ukraine, the countryâs prime minister Sanna Marin said.
The shipment will include 2,500 assault rifles, 150,000 bullets, 1,500 anti-tank weapons and 70,000 food packages, Finlandâs defence minister Antti Kaikkonen added.
Speaking after a government meeting today, Kaikkonen told reporters:
The anti-tank weapons can be used to fight armoured vehicles.
Kaikkonen hinted yesterday that the Finnish government was considering scrapping Finlandâs long-standing policy of not allowing weapons to be exported to war zones.
The minister also said that Finland, which is not a Nato member and shares a long border with Russia, had given the green light to Estonia to send previously Finnish-owned field guns to Ukraine.
Dry British Humor:
Seems to me the Russians have picked on the wrong folk to try and dominate.
I would not be surprised to hear of Putin being unemployed in the near future.
And I would also expect that folks, if one asked anywhere in the world, would say that Putin is no âgeniusâ as trump named him.
ââŚcheckpoints set up to root out Russian saboteurs in disguise.â
If only the RNC had done that when they had the chance.

Check points near polling places? Another reason for mail in ballots.
Ukrainian ingenuity has found a use for a Lada? By God, they could win this thing.
Shell is out.
Zelensky: A comedian who became a strong, dignified and trusted leader.
Trump: A reality show star who became a buffoonish, weak, self-serving and stupid loser. Ah, contrasts!
Probably just a kid.
What a waste. War is obsolete. A vile atavism.
I don,t think the russians are going to take Kiev by assault without enormous casualties. Guess it depends on Putins ego, but it seems like surrounding iit and trrying to starve them out seems to be the plan Otoh, if he gets even crazier and nukes it, what will the Wests response be?
holy. this was painful to listen to, but I encourage everyone to do so. There is more to it than the quote in the tweet.
Things are getting crazy now in Kyiv since the peace talks did not go the way that Putin wanted, and the Russian economy is tanking. However, first thing this morning I saw this picture of our son, our daughter-in-law, and of course Trisha. Along with the picture was this statement:
Day 5: they havenât broken us

This will drive enlistment into the Russian army.
How many sons of oligarchs are on the front lines of the Russian forces??
The lesson here is obviously this: Do not ever underestimate the Ukrainian people.
Itâs terrible. And Russia has a shrinking population, anyway. What is Putin doing to his country?
Making it great again
Murder-suicide is what it looks like.
