Rep. Adam Kinzinger (R-IL), a member of the Jan. 6 Select Committee, on Sunday would not confirm whether the panel plans to subpoena Ginni Thomas after reports revealed text messages from Thomas urging then-White House chief of staff Mark Meadows to pursue Big Lie efforts in the weeks after the 2020 election.
Like it or not, subpoenaing the wife of a Supreme Court justice, though well deserved in this particular case, is explosive. I think Kinzinger is right not to get too far ahead of the Committee on this.
And we are going to, in a methodical, fact-driven way, get to the answers here,” Kinzinger said. “We’ll call in whoever we need to call in.”
Though this answer makes me optimistic in thinking they will call her in. The Committee has done impressive work to date, in my view, and has shown real courage. I see no reason to believe they change course now.
Was going thru some files of mine and I found this conversation between a Ukrainian Babushka (grandmother) and a Russian soldier. This interaction took place at the beginning of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. I think it’s very revealing… The soldier is carrying an automatic assault rifle, the lady is unarmed except for an outsized mountain of courage. It takes real guts to seriously insult an armed soldier like she did and survive.

The part of lying down with seeds in their pockets is a serious curse. It means the flowers will grow when they’re dead and buried.
They’re the best friends of democracy the fascist cult has to offer. At least they’ve shown political courage, something no other cult members possess.
So far Kinzinger and Cheney are very willing to be true to their values and the Constitution which is far and away more than what any other republican is willing to do. They are willing to lose their seats on a point of principle. No other goober would consider such a thing. I am no kind of conservative but I do respect someone willing to take a stand on their support of the Constitution and our traditions. Generally doing such a thing makes for a very short career in politics.
The bombshell would have been, “Kinzinger will not act on Ginni Thomas”… This–Kinzinger’s actual statement–addresses a situation that screams corruption and bat-shit-crazy zealotry.
She may plead the 5th. But the J6 Committee could subpoena her communications, could they not? I doubt she stopped texting between late November and after January 6. The digital paper trail is going to be bonkers, I think.
