Kinzinger Takes Aim At McCarthy For Letting The Big Lie Run Rampant In GOP | Talking Points Memo

Rep. Adam Kinzinger (R-IL) on Sunday took aim at House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) for letting the downplaying of the deadly Capitol insurrection that former President Trump incited proliferate within the Republican Party.

Cheers for Rep. Kinzinger. How refreshing to hear from a Republican who can tell the truth. I’d begun to believe that GQPers were congenitally incapable of distinguishing truth from lies. Kinzinger may be a voice in the GQP wilderness, with the right wing soap box being dominated by the likes of McConnell, McCarthy, Paul, Greene, Ron Johnson, Gaetz, etc. . . . . .and of course, the Big Liar in chief, Trump.

But maybe Mr. Kinzinger promises some hope for relief.

Good to see the GOP chewing on one another.

Way to waterski in Liz Cheney’s wake.

Kevin is the leader . . . Donald Trump is the leader of the party

The GOP has a very loose and flexible definition of “leader.”

That’s not fair to Kinzinger - he’s been up front about all of this for quite some time.

Kinzinger:

[“And it pains me to say. It’s not like I enjoy standing up and saying this, but people, the 74 million voters that voted for Donald Trump, the belief — a number of them that believe the election was stolen believe it because their leaders have not told them otherwise. The people they trust have either been silent or not told them the truth.”]

The above statement by Kinzinger says a great deal. It is positively amazing just how seldom statements like this appear from those in responsible positions.

What is it?

Trump is a deity???

WHAT??!!

It’s clear at this point that there will be no political solution, other than due to the will of the voters; the republicans are not going to police themselves until they hit bottom. Criminal prosecutions will be required.

The political problems created by THAT will be mitigated if the 1/6 commission does a thorough job and publicizes its findings. But R’s such as Kinzinger, Cheney, Katko, et al. will have to keep beating the drum as well.

The Senate is going to have to pass S1 or the GOP will install a regime.

The GOP is a big tent party… too bad the tent is full of holes and decided to go camping in an active landfill.

Kinzinger and Cheney are pining for the old Republican Party as if it will magically come back. If they want something to occur in their lifetimes, they’d be better off forming a 3rd party.

OT: For all the big talk doesn’t look like things are panning out well for the White Lives Matter contingent of the GOP. Read this on Raw Story.

Repeating the dismal performance of last month’s rallies, white supremacists mustered only a paltry turnout in a handful of locations across North America, with antifascists infiltrating their planning chats and turning out larger groups of protesters. Many of the local White Lives Matter organizers canceled their events altogether. While last month’s White Lives Matter event in Huntington Beach, Calif. turned violent, the state admin took to Telegram on the morning of May 8 to urge supporters to “do some banner drops/sticker activism,” before announcing, “California will not have an official event.”

That will of the voters may hold on. In MO we voted to expand Medicaid, the governor budgeted for it, but the legislature rejected allotting that money to expand Medicaid.
This is not the first time that the legislature has gone against the will of the voters, it has happened under the last Democratic governor and now the Republican governor.

trump is the naked emperor, and he knows he’s naked, but he tells his cult followers that he’s clothed in finery, and they believe him. McCarthy and McConnel and most of the others know trump is naked, but won’t say anything.

This is good to know. There may be a way to graph this, but the GOP’s race is to make Democratic votes matter less than Republican votes, because they know that we outnumber them.

I look at it as like a mobster who is on trial.

He knows that there are witnesses. He knows that there are juries. He knows about LEO…he simply wants them not to count (and when I say “count”, I am using every meaning of the word).

The rot didn’t start with the Tea Party candidates, but it sure did turn into toxic mold.

I do not wish to get into the race to read Joe Manchin’s mind.

But S1 is about the only thing that can stop the gazillion GOP Voter Suppression Bills that are appearing in red and purple states.

If Manchin is against S1 then he is OK with VS

I found the article interesting because I already think the GOP is not nearly as powerful as they want us to believe. These RW groups were flourishing in the lead up to the capitol insurrection, they are now languishing and unable to incite their followers as before.

I am 10,000% solid on your idea of the weakness of the GOP. I am also 10,000% solid on what my wife called this entire Trump Era:

A GRIFT

Problem is that Trump is causing more damage to people’s will to go forward with our Republic than it should. And Stacey Abrams (who appears to me to be quite level-headed) is, I believe, a person who should be listened to w/r/t the GOP’s Voter Suppression Project. The GOP always seeks to give the impression that it is unstoppable.

It’s like the GOP is flying Stukas and has managed to message an impression that it’s driving P-51’s.

I wish I knew. I talk to people all the time who say the same thing: What the hell is it?

Whatever it is obviously doesn’t work on us.

No. It does not.
