Rep. Adam Kinzinger (R-IL), a member of the Jan. 6 Select Committee, on Sunday issued a dire warning about potential violence heading into the 2024 presidential election unless the GOP gets a “grip” on election fraud falsehoods pushed by former President Trump and his allies.
No, it won’t and we have to stop believing it will be. The GQP minions will never, ever believe that Biden is the duly elected President and they will never, ever believe that any Democrat can win any office fairly.
As more and more judges make their colors known, e.g., New Mexico, which wanted to deny the certification of their primary, more and more elections will be called into question. We were lucky with the NM election, but in the deep south and the mountain States, I don’t think we’re going to be so lucky, as the GQP continues to develop doubt in our elective system.
I don’t see this as being a mess for the GQP. I see this as being a mess for the casual voter who, on hearing all of this, has one more reason to think his or her vote doesn’t count.
The difference is … Republicans like it. They like being afraid. They want that bully at the bully pulpit. They want a “strong man” to tell them what to do, to yell at anyone who strays from the course, and to threaten everyone who refuses to go along with the fascistic flow. They don’t want to have to deal with facts and reason, much less justice and fairness.
Republicans like being afraid of Trump**. ’s no wonder that they are always making paintings and posters in which Trump is some muscle-bound action hero. Because admitting they enjoy being bullied by the actual Trump … is simply pathetic.
Trump is running in 2024, and he’ll win. The Dems have no one to stop him, and the confluence of unfavorable factors Democrats will be working with is going to kill them.
Everyone wants, or is sure, Trump is toast because the DOJ is indicting him, for something. I say he walks. But what if he is indicted, and goes to trial, and wins the acquittal or stalemate that will surely follow? Imagine he has that to run on. “I was found innocent, which means I was right, it was a witch hunt all along, and the people that rushed the Capitol were great patriots!! Just like me!! A jury just proved it was all lies!! I was robbed!! I did nothing wrong!! It was a perfect call!! And a perfect rally!! Vote for me!! MAGA!!”
If the DOJ or Georgia prosecutes Trump they better remember the admonition:
It took me longer than it should have to realize that this is why republicans are afraid trump will tweet about them. It’s not that they’re afraid of the reputational damage from being insulted, it’s that his tweets point the Stochastic violence machine in their direction.
We are in an existential battle with stupidity.
It will never be disabused, it can be out voted (not easy as solidarity from the center left to the hard left is like herding cats)
These people are insane by any reasonable standard. Trump could even TELL them Biden was elected and they wouldn’t believe it. They’d think it was some clever stratagem to mess with the media.
And look at how the Bible-thumpers react to Herschel Walker. It’s fucking insane.
